Good news

This will be what I (and many many others) have been waiting for for years. Good work Comcast!

(I'm amazed that I got this post in before people start complaining about the 250GB soft-cap)

Hopefully there will also be a good set of network neutrality rules, to finally enable users to run applications of their choice. Once we're free from ISP discrimination against servers, the public will be able to realized the benefits of the end-to-end nature of the internet, where everyone can be a peer.

And what are you going to serve up to the internet with all that new upload speed?

Websites mostly.

Also with big bandwidth in both directions, realtime video would become popular, and people would start using videophones instead of VOIP (one will be a client and one a server on a given occasion, but with fast symmetrical connections it might as well be either each time). And it would be nice to serve up files with secure ftp or vpn, from the home office to wherever I travel, and allow friends their own directories and so on.
