Propane tank to turkey fryerI was wondering if anyone here would be able to help me with this. I have received an old turkey fryer and propane tank that I want to use. The problem is, the connectors do not fit. I have no idea what to look for or even the names of these fittings and what would or wouldn't be legal. Any help? |

You are missing a hose... and your nozzle on your tank is not standard. |

That tank nozzle is a quick connect/disconnect. |

Yep, that tank has a quick connect. I don't like them. Trade that tank in for one with a standard connection. The problem you will have is any place that knows what they are doing will not do a straight up trade and you will basically have to buy a new tank. But if you go to a place like some of these grocery stores that do the Blue Rhino tank swaps, chances are good it will be some teen that won't care.
Then get a hose to connect the tank and the fryer. You do not want the tank right next to the fryer while in use. |

You need the POL connector for portable propane tanks now. |

Are you back down south or should I watch for the smoke plume and fire trucks around Wheaton on my way home next week? |

Yeah I'm back down south in the endless deserts of cornfields. Who knows, maybe I can make a smoke plume big enough for you to see :-P So I need a hose from the pigtail of turkey fryer and something to go from the quick connect to something else. Hmm, any further leads about filling in the missing pieces? |

Thanks, although I am actually using the turkey fryer as a wort boiler for brewing beer . Since the wort is 99% water, it doesnt get above 212 degrees, which, would still cause 3rd degree burns but splattering from water hitting oil is less of a problem. |

You can get an adapter to go from the quick connect on the tank to the standard threaded connection on the regulator. » www.heatershop.com/weber ··· ter.html |

Get one of these from Harbor Freight: » www.harborfreight.com/cp ··· er=97333And an updated tank from Blue Rhino. EDIT: Even if you found a free tank to match the connector on your fryer, nobody would refill it. Tanks are ALL stamped with an inspection date. ALL tanks with that connector are now obsolete and would need to be updated before passing inspection. |

I believe the date stamped on this one was from 2002 which means I still have a few years left on it, although I could be wrong. |

dont be a cheapass, the cost of driving around to find the adapter would be alot less if that tank caught fire and BLEVE while you where cooking.
I have several tanks and burners for cooking outdoors (Cajun food is awesome) and a full new tank only runs around $25. |

You got a fryer for free now get a tank and a hose so you won't set yourself on fire! Or worse someone else. |

If the valve doesn't have an OPD (Overflow Protection Device) noone will fill it. Your $10 adapter will be a one time purchase for this tank only. A full tank of gas is $20. Is there more than $10 of gas in this tank? Will you be getting more of these free tanks?
If you knew someone who already had the adapter you could give the gas away. |

No you are good on the frier side but what you need is a propane tank with a standard POL (Presto-Light / Put on Left ) valve on it. Wayne |

That is a good way to get an upgrade but keep in mind they (Blue Rhino etc.) do not provide fully filled tanks. Here BR only places 15 of pounds of propane (approx 60% fill) into a 20 pound at 80% capacity tank. Wayne |

Use duct tape to connect the two. Duct tape is the miracle wonder device of the ages.
*Note: Please don't use Duct tape, the above was a joke.
Like the others suggested, need a hose. |

The easiest solution is to just remove the short threaded piece of pipe with the connector from the regulator and replace it with a quick disconnect one. These disconnects are perfectly legal and meet code. Any reputable place that refills tanks will have an adapter to fill it and will as long as it has an OPD (which this one does). I have used this style connector for a long time and really like them. |

I have several tanks and burners for cooking outdoors (Cajun food is awesome) and a full new tank only runs around $25. I wasn't trying to be a cheapass, I was trying to figure out how it worked! I thought this was a "standard" tank but clearly not. New tanks around here run about 45-50 filled. Considering it would cost about 20 to get this one filled and most of the adapters would run around 10-15, for 10 bucks more I am getting a new/proper tank. Thanks for all the input folks! Fresh beer is on its way. edit: Since I have it, what type of cajun food would you recommend? I might as well try some stuff out and I do like cajun. |

Read post # 4 again. I get away with it all the time. You do know how to transport a tank? |
|
|
to snipper_cr
Tank is old and/or old connector on the tank, or someone replaced it with a non-standard connector.
Replace the tank with any new one, and you will be frying in no time. |
