T1's aren't THAT expensive really.. I mean, if you're dumb enough to get them from the phone company direct you'll pay a lot for them. If you go to a provider like Speakeasy or something, you can get a full T1 for $359 a month.. and for that level of service, and reliability, then it's worth the money.
And with that, you get:
* Full-Duplex transmission of data
* Priority data routing
* 100% throughput and 99.99% uptime SLA
* Proactive Network Monitoring
* Up to 100 domain email addresses (@mydomain.com)
* Block of 16 Static IPs

People need to stop thinking about residential service and pricing and the newer DSL/CABLE based business service as the same as T1.. speed means nothing.. it's more than just speed. Sure, you can get a 7meg DSL line for about $79 a month.. but you get what you pay for.. internet access at your own risk. T1 comes with SO much more.. and yes, you will pay more.. again, it's not about speed. | |

Any location that I have a T1 in, the Truck rolls according to the SLA.. Besides, the SLA has a provision in it for when they default on it... | |

So what are you trying to say? .. that the internet isn't perfect? ... I've been trying to say that for YEARS now...
It sounds like you also have never had or seen an SLA. The maximum credit they will issue you is the cost of your monthly service in most cases. And, depending on the circumstances and the amount of failure on their part to follow their contract, that's what the courts are for.
Either way, in the 10 years that I've dealt with T1s, personally, I've never had that problem... so I'm sorry, but I can't engage you in this conversation anymore because it's not going anywhere, nor will it.
Nothing in life is going to be perfect nor will it always go as expected. I think that the sooner people realize this and plan for this the better their lives will be. To think otherwise only sets yourself up for failure. (I can definitely leave the hidden message here, but I can't.. the point is, if you're THAT worried or concerned about mission critical in your life and business, have a backup. I do... When my cable would go out, I had DSL. In my new place, when my cable goes out, I have my Sprint card... if it's that important to me, I won't leave myself an option... same goes in business) | |

2 edits | Re: how much? To loose a fraction of a T1 charge, $300 a month, is not enough of an incentive for an ILEC to always roll a truck at 2 AM, when your paying overtime for 4 guys and 2 trucks. They won't replace an F1 or F2 at 2 AM. Many stories on DSLR over telcos who don't care about copper T1s. A fiber loop is a bit different. If you have a fiber T1, there are multiple OC-12s on there, and those are not worth to ignore since their monthly fee is so high and the telco stands to loose so much money waiting till monday. | |
