 | Dial up, I bid thee farewell! Well, we finally ordered satellite internet. After 10 years on dial up, today's demands for HSI brought us to upgrade to satellite. I am grateful to have had a means to connect to the internet, but oh was it sometimes a headache.
Now that my dial up days are over, its time to join the new world of High Speed Internet!!!
YO ADRIAN... I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| If you don't mind would you please post back after a week or so and let me know how the satellite internet is working out.
I've read about it, but most of what I've read says there a lot of outages with satellite. I might be interested in trying it, but I'd like to know if it's reliable or not. I know it costs more than other high speed access options so I would want it to be reliable. |
|
 | Ok. But rmember that alot of Google searches about satellite internet are testimonies from the past and of today. It is obviously better today that say 5 years ago. I have read good and bad things too. Hughesnes seems to be the best satellite provider though from what I read. |
|
 | I get special offers from HughesNet about once a month through snail mail. I don't know anyone in my area who has used it to ask about there service reliability. |
|
 | They rescheduled our installation to this Thursday due to heavy rain. I will let you know then. |
|
 | OK, Thank You! |

 | Well, we have it installed and so far so good! Everything is downloading and uploading so much faster now and we even have their slowest package with Hughesnet. It is far superior to dial up and I am really happy with it. |
|
 | That's good to hear.
The next time I get an offer in the mail I will have to check it out. |

| said by Duramax08:but isn't DSL available where you live? Yes it is, but in order to subscribe to it I would have to change my home phone service provider back to AT&T and I'm not willing to do that.
AT&T has the franchise on DSL here and in order to use it and have regular home phone service you have to use AT&T as your phone service provider.
If I'm going to pay more for anything it would be high speed internet, not AT&T's phone service. That's why I am looking for alternative HSI providers. |

| I think you can go with naked DSL where you dont need a phoneline. All you will have is a line with a DSL signal. Might want to see if its available before you even think of satellite. -- Would like a landline but wireless will work for now. |

See if you can get low use life-line phone service it should be pretty cheap, not much more then dry-line DSL. Here in NH an unlimited line only costs about $25 a month with taxes.

| Thanks Duramax08 & tschmidt .
I'll check and see if the options you both mentioned are available. |
|
 | reply to septcasey Fixed wireless broadband may also be an option... It's pretty much available wherever cell phone service is. However it is primarily a business grade medium so it's priced as such (about $150-$170 per month). |
