We have 4 cats and use Fresh step multi cat formula.. seems to work ok.

Your best bet is to scoop as soon as possible to keep the box clean. I clean the boxes at least 1 or 2 times daily, even though they don't smell (the litter I use works well). I have three cats using two boxes.

Another possible issue could be your cat isn't covering his/her poo as well as he/she should. Some cats just jump out of the box and don't perform that step.

That looks interesting, but does it come in extra large size? I didn't see any sizes on the web link. Reason I ask is because we have a cat/dog [he thinks he is a dog sometimes] that weighs in around 20-25 pounds.

I haven't, but they eat good stuff. It's wellness canned kitten formula and wellness kitten dry food. This stuff is so good I am not ashamed to say I tried the dry food on several occasions. I couldn't help myself. It smelled better than most cereal.

My kitty buries the poo deeply. Even when he does this, it smells terrible. He has been spiting the fact that kitty #2 entered the house by shitting right next to the litter box instead of in it lately, which is of no help. The issue of poor performing litter dates back way before this.

I don't want a dog.

I believe you are suppose to have 1 litter box for each cat, to keep them happy.

We have kept an air purifier with an ozone generator in our "cat room" for years now. It does an incredible job of keeping the odor away. The only time you can smell anything is if one of the cats does a super duty dump; and that's rare. It fades within a few minutes.

We have 3 cats and 3 boxes; we scoop every other day. The air cleaner is certainly a must have in my opinion.

I've had it for 2 years, not a single issue. 4 cats, including 2 Bengals who are quite big, no issue.

I live in a loft and there isn't a single odor, ever.

People don't realize it's not the litter brand, with more than 1 cat you need something that cleans up as quickly as possible.

Tidy Cats for Multiple Cats. Arm & Hammer is good too but it's too expensive for what you get.

Of course it's going to smell right when a "present" is left -- I'm sure your bathroom doesn't smell flowery while you're dropping a bomb.

Within 15 minutes or so after the "deposit" you'd never know a cat was there.

since there are so many litter kinds available, asking in a public forum what people recommend is liable to get you as many different answers as there are replies.

we use crystal litter, the dust reduction and smell reduction is well worth the difference in price to us.

I use feline pine.

It doesn't keep the poop smell down any better than any other brand. When my cat poops, and I smell it, I scoop it.

And I third, (or fourth ?), the motion for Tidy Cats, for multiple cats.

I have two cats.

One litter box.

It smells kind of like green apple, sometimes.

I scoop the box every day, right after my -own- 'morning constitutional'.

Also, I feed my cats ONLY the cat food in the purple bag at Costco.

They have gotten to where they will not eat anything else.

My oldest cat had a run-in with a bobcat. (Well, we both did. It had most of my cat in it's mouth. I had to hit the bobcat in the head with a pipe to get it to let go of my cat.) And she was badly hurt.

Took weeks for her to recover. VERY bad infections, mostly.

During that time, the vet suggested canned cat food, because they thought her jaw was broken.

She only barely pecked at the canned food, every once in a while.

After almost two weeks, she was next to dead. Barely moving.

On a hunch, and in desperation, I waved some of the costco food in front of her, and she literally JUMPED up, and ran to the food bowl when I set it down.

After that, she recovered quickly.

The younger cat was eating cheapo cat food when I adopted him.

He would switch from one food to the other, willingly, until the cheapo stuff that I was given, was gone.

When he was on the cheapo stuff... HOOOOOOWEEEEE ! did that smell go everywhere in the house. Stank stank STAAANK !

After the cheapo stuff ran out, and all he was eating was the costco stuff, back again to very little smell.
