Re: Solution in search of a problem

I live in CV's footprint, but CV hates NJ and we're always last to get anything.

The point is that a cell phone provides far more coverage and mobility. CV WiFi will provide ZERO additional coverage. None. Nada. Ziltch. So what's the point of providing nothing?

Grow up.

Edit:

I suppose that when cable first started laying service in a town for the first time, having service ready only to a limited part of the city was pointless? I suppose when Verizon rolls out LTE to a few cities, that the lack of coverage was pointless? I suppose when Fios only hit a few homes to begin with, it too was useless?

Are you just trolling? ... or you really that clueless? If you can't figure out the message you're being told by me, and others, then you're either really clueless or just trolling. Either way, see above.

Neither verizon nor att has 100 percent coverage in all of the tri state area.
I can guarantee that there's no place in NJ that has a CV Wifi signal but doesn't have a VZW signal.

I have wifi and have NEVER seen a verizon wifi network. I've seen Comcast, and several other little ones, but never Verizon. (I have cv/ool)

And yes, I know exactly where the CO for Verizon is because I do communications for the MS 100 in Sept, and it always starts and ends there....
(also have a friend who works for ATT across town from them.)

What I'm saying is that I see no reason for a WiFi phone, as the cellular service already saturates the entire state and can be used almost anywhere in the US and Canada.

And when you consider that CV's WiFi coverage is very spotty and will only ever cover a tiny fraction of the state, its pointlessness becomes even more evident.

I'm comparing CV's WiFi service (or lack thereof) with Verizon Wireless' cellular service (which saturates the entire state).

wonder if it will be as successful as their satellite TV company. How many millions did they blow on that?
Bobcat you continue to be uninformed. CV's investors (and many customers) continue to be negative about new deployments of tech that are to their benefit in the long term. The people on CV complain all the time about compression and artifacts on HD. CV's satellite was for ALL HD transmission but the cost and the noise and perhaps lacking a partnership with someone else cause them to sell it off. The CV satellite and the tech that it deployed made it possible for DISH to be alive today and offering all the HD channels they do in better quality and with less compression. It was too advanced at the time, but no one could afford to deploy one now.

I wish you would stop trolling the CV forums. We all know you don't like them and I'm not even sure you have service from them anymore. Do you complain about all the fees and extra charges on your dsl account?

There are ZERO extra fees and charges with my Verizon DSL service. None. No taxes. No fees. Just the regular monthly rate (which is 29% cheaper than Cablevision).

I'd still be a Cablevision customer if they hadn't raised the price by 50%!

Hell, CV doesn't have a single WiFi site in my town at all.

Again, Verizon covers the whole area, making the CV WiFi useless if you have a cellular/WiFi device. CV WiFi adds nothing.
CV doesn't service the entire state of New Jersey, NY or Connecticut. They can only deploy WIFI where they have existing cable. YOU live on the edge of their coverage. I live in a area where I can get WIFI from my house, all the way into NYC. I can also get 1.5mb service tethered on my cell phone from ATT. So what. Both Verizon and ATT have caps. WIFI that I don't have to pay extra for is pretty nice in my book.

Stop trolling Cablevison forums.

Yeah that's accurate. Let's talk about Verizon's false promise to bring FIOS to everyone in NJ if the state would change the rules so they didn't have to negotiate with each town and that they weren't cherry picking..... I am surrounded by FIOS, but it will never come to me..... and Verizon's cellular is only 2.5G even on my non-smartphone, I can surf and talk at the same time and have done so.

They haven't done that, and they never will. But my Verizon cell phone works everywhere.

talk apples to apples.

CV has not raised their OOL rates at all in 6 years.

Verizon has constantly changed pricing, and never lowered prices when they offered a better deal to any grandfathered customer without them asking for it.

Verizon as a telco is subject to additional fees and taxes that cable companies are not subject to. This may change in the future, but it's not now.

SO WHAT F*ing internet cost went up 50%? OH, you're not talking about that, you're talking about your TELEVISION. PUT UP A 100" ANTENNAE and get it for FREE FOREVER -- it's no one's fault that you live in the woods. A very nice section of woods, but far far away from major television transmitters. They just don't want to give it to you for free and they legally made everyone in the Bronx get a box, so why not you?

THEY DO.

THEY HAVE.

THEY DON"T PUT IT IN THE WOODS.

THEY PUT IT AT BUS STOPS, and TRAIN STATIONS.
THEY PUT IT ON 'MAIN STREET" and ALONG MAJOR BUS ROUTES
THEY PUT IT IN PARKS WITH VIEWING STANDS

BUT they only put it where they have existing SILVER boxes where they meet the above criteria. They are not deploying extra silver boxes without good reason or just for WiFi.

Morristown has pretty good coverage. Somerset has coverage.

And only where there are above ground utilities. Buried utilities means no CV WiFi.

We have 10 units per acre, shopping centers, a recreation center, pools, tennis courts, and a park, but no CV WiFi.

Now if I lived in a train station, I guess CV's WiFi would be available.

Yeah, you're right also not where they have BURIED cable. Too bad., but everyone there has NIMBY about antennas anyway.

They are not replacing your WIRED services from them. They are not putting wifi in residential neighborhoods so you can get your neighbor to give you a ool email address to log in with and not pay. Most residential service is accidental to what they intend to deploy.

GO OUT and take a look for the silver boxes. ARE they at the shopping center you mention? Are there any at or near the pool? I bet not. That's why.

BUT MAYBE it's all a conspiracy against you and your ranting all the time, so they decided to NOT put ANY where you live - though I doubt that this is true.

In my town they put it all along main street, the HS and Middle school. The bus route in town is covered and the HS Football field (not at the HS) is also partially covered since the field/stands are at the FAR end of the park. We have 7K houses in a couple sq miles.

It covers the DENSEST part of the state and not the rolling hills and woods of Bedminster.

I'm just saying I don't see the point of a CV WiFi TELEPHONE since cell phones can get coverage everywhere in CV's territory. CV's WiFi TELEPHONE is pointless.

Yeah, well SOME of us don't feel like paying for the rape that is AT&T data, so if OOL is giving me wi-fi access for free. (included in my monthly service), I'm all for it.

PERSONALLY, I only use it rarely, so I really don't care, but I think it's nice that they are doing it. I know there are MANY who use it on a regular basis. Just that I'm not one of them.

No one is currently using CV's WiFi for telephone service, which is the topic of this discussion.
