I don't see the harm in this...

Although I wouldn't temporarily change my town's name to Google, I do like Topeka's intent...

I am in another capital city with just 2 broadband options... from the looks of it, the camps are price and speed. DSL (Centurylink) users are usually price conscious and cable (Comcast) users are either looking for speed or they are looking for an all-in-one solution.

I fell in to the price camp... I have a stripped down phone line and 3.0Mb/640k DSL for $51 (including tax). Unfortunately for me, 3.0Mb is the highest speed CenturyLink offers me at this time. On the other hand, Comcast offers 12/1 for $43+fees and 16/1 for $53+fees. Their phone+HSI bundle is $54+fees. They also offer 50Mb internet here as well, but I don't know how much that costs. Only thing that is holding me back are the activation fees and the additional fees that comes with having cable.

Tallahassee is also in the running for Google fiber as well; I know there are parts of town that have only one option; also, if you stray too far away from the city, you have only satellite (or nothing)... hopefully having Google as an ISP will spice things up some
