Testing Out the WiFiI road on the Acela yesterday and tried out the wifi. It is great that they are doing this and giving it away for free, but after they get out the bugs, they will either need to boost the speed significantly or being charging to reduce usage load.
Tethering with my blackberry was faster than the wifi connection - which definitely lagged. Onboard (before reading the posts here), when I asked a rep, they indicated that it was a 3G service bundling the major carriers.
A good start for Amtrak (and great idea), but there is definitely room for improvement before I give up my tethering for wifi on the train. |
