| ROI proven, yet slow progress In the 7 years the speeds offered to residential customers barely breaks 100 megabits(10:1 asymmetrical no less) at a STEEP price, chock full of early adopter activation/installation fees. That fantasy of 1996 telco reform didn't exactly do a whole lot for the best of the deployed networks much less the worst of them. Competition did not take off... the worst of behaviors including consolidation and price collusion involved with cherry picking municipalities and blood letting rural and poor "roi" parts of existing footprints are the reality on the ground.
Can one blame consumers getting ripped off by staying loyal to companies while "temporary" price reductions got them locked in for 1-2 years of savings and after that they have to switch off to another carrier to continue the discounts? Yes, apathy is part of the problem, but not the whole part... companies preyed on this apathy and took it as a sign to experiment with higher pricing and capping services with a total bytes consumed monthly limit. Consumers can't afford to be apathetic to these companies because they will screw you over at every turn if your not demanding the best price each and every time your discount fades into history.. |
