I always knew for years that 9600 baud wasn't the limit on copper for signaling. It's all in the "math" and the electrical extension of signaling speeds.
AT&T (IMHO) made a good decision on maximizing a built in resource called "copper cable". All they need do is maintain it properly and then invent new methods to extend the length of signaling from the VRAD. All that requires are a few brilliant propeller heads from M.I.T.
I have had cable and satellite and separate DSL. U-Verse beats them all by a country mile when it comes to performance, quality, fair pricing and above all, near 100% availability at maximum rated speeds and features.
