I'll have to see if that model supports PPPoA. I've got one in a box somewhere. I had one forced on me just before I fired Earthlink as an ISP and never bothered to return it.

The ZyXEL P-660R-ELNK and the ZyXEL P-660R-61 does not show any update there, but EL lists one here for only the ZyXEL P-660R-ELNK (filename "upgradeTool_to_340AHC4D1_V03.zip") so this confirms and shows that the "D1" Firmware can be used on the "ELNK" version. :

Thanks for the info. I'll have to try that some time, even though it'll be tough to replace the high-power 802.11g in my 2Wire 2701HG-B if I decide to switch.

You could always connect the ZyXEL LAN port to one of the open LAN ports of the 2Wire after turning off the DHCP server on the 2Wire so that the ZyXEL will handle DHCP duties for all LAN connected PCs.

Eventually, you may read about it in Rants, Raves etc. I've got a business customer with a new laptop that's apparently a lemon.

P-660R-D1 is what mine says. In 2000, I acquired Mindspring as a dsl isp and Covad controlled the equipment. For a number of years, I tried to solve an apparent old copper problem that gave me throughput/sync problems for about half the year, during the warm months. Finally, I switched to Comcast cable, which was fine, then back to Earthlink 1.5 dsl in a cost-cutting move. That has been quite reliable, so I conjecture the fault is not exposed at this setting, less likely it has been repaired. It looks like Covad is no longer in the CO? dlsreports sees sbcglobal and traceroute:

So, mostly idle curiosity, as I might like to try a faster sync package when my economic stimulus package arrives and noting the improvement for marginal lines, does this firmware fit on my Zyxel?

AT&T (formerly SBC) has rolled out ADSL2+ Hardware in a lot of their COs and RTs, but you would not know for sure until you try the new firmware. I don't see any downside in updating the Firmware as it should be just as stable as it is now.
