Re: Massive Slowdowns? My Router and Switch |
Sometimes it is the router. I've bumped into some really sh*tty routers in the past. Even the latest ones can't handle the amount of connections I put it through.
..which is the reason I built ours (see above and below). It's been handling the massive torture I put it though daily. I download rather large files and updates, along with torrenting Linux/BSD discs. It takes it and wants more.
If people want a more reliable router, build your own. Intel Atom systems are getting cheaper (or find an old PC), and a pair of network cards and you're good to go for an excessively LONG time. Already have a wireless router? Disable DHCP on it, give it a static IP (x.x.x.2) and tie it into your switch (use the LAN port, not the WAN port). -- Bresnan 15M/1M MyWS[P4HT@3.2GHz,2GB RAM,2x1TB HDDs,Win7] WifeWS[P4HT@3GHz,2GB RAM,60GB HDD,Win7] Router[2xP3@1GHz,512MB RAM,18GB HDD,SMC 8432BTA,2xDigital DE504,Compaq NC3131,Intel Pro/1000MT,IBM Gigabit Ethernet-SX,Allied Telesyn AT-2560FX,Gentoo Linux] |
