I must disagree on both points.
3rd party firmware is often superior in performance, stability and security. My WRT54Gv6 is a good example of this. Me and my roommate could not play Xbox live on the our 2 Xbox360s even with UPnP Enabled at the same time and I was having to restart on a regular basis. I moved the Firmware on my router over to DDwrt v23 (it was while ago) I enabled the UPnP and BAM the two 360s got on XBL with zero problems I got better signal strength and I did not need to restart regularly anymore.
After I got into this firmware stuff a bit more I got my hands on a WRT54GSv4 and put Tomato on it witch has become my favorite for my main router. Tomato, however cool, is limited on the hardware that it can be put on unlike DDwrt that supports many more devices. |
