Icing on the cakeThe problem with these deals at heart isn't the tax treatment. It's that essentially, what Verizon seems to be doing is offloading its debts onto a company that then fails, leaving the creditors (who presumably lent the money based on Verizon's debt rating, not that of the other company) high and dry.
The fact that they get favorable tax treatment is as the subject says, icing on the cake. |
