Good grief, we normally get about about 4 inches for March and we are nearing the 10 inch mark now and still raining! This gives "Mud season" a whole new meaning! |

3 edits | Yea its bad there. Massachusetts has some problems also. Southern Maine is getting hit the worst in the State. They have some dams ready to give, and one has already. My areas geological layout can handle the rain. However, that isn't to say there isn't allot of water! Mosquito season is going to be Hell! |

The nor'easter we had two and a half weeks ago killed our water heater. Due to conditions in our basement, it turns out that a tank water heater is, um, suboptimal, and a couple of earlier storms had knocked out the heater but we were able to get it working again. Not this time. So for two weeks we were in talks with our plumbing about replacing that and the furnace with a tankless combo unit. We finally settled on something, and work started Monday. (Yes, in this latest storm, in our dark, wet basement. I'm thinking we need to send the plumber a nice bottle of whiskey for enduring those conditions.) So we've been without hot water for two and a half weeks, and without hot water AND heat for the last two days.
Times like this, a gym membership is priceless. Even if I wasn't working out regularly anyway, access to the showers would be totally worth it. -- "Strive to change the world in such a way that there's no further need to be a dissident." | reply to Dominokat No need for a boat trailer this year! Just float to the mooring.
Actually not too bad out here. 9.24in / 234.7mm for the month. I like living on a hill too. |

| reply to Dominokat Just got an email from my SIL about the flooding.
My aunt and uncle are okay, only some water in their cellar. They are in Foster, RI.
My SIL's store got water in one room but that has receded but the store is still surrounded by water - Plainfield, CT.
Her mom's house has about 5 inches of water in the cellar - Killingsly, CT.
The bridge in Moosup, CT was under water.
My dad's house has water but not sure how bad it is yet - Putnam, CT. My SIL and her nephew went to the house the day before the storm hit and cleanned the gutters and spouts out and put some long troughs to lead the water away from the house.
Dkat, I'm going to change your title to reflect this thread as a check-in for our members.
I'm worried about birdfeedr because he's in Warick and I haven't seen him around for a couple of days. Hope he's okay. -- TH ~ NE ~ EPN ~ NC ~ TD |

Living near central Peabody, which I'm sure you've seen on the news at least once or twice..it's like atlantis. It's hilarious how a rainstorm can shut down the city hall, court house, and major businesses in the city square..why they would ever build the center of a city below sea level is beyond me! In addition to having no way to leave Peabody except for one road due to road closures, they also shut down part of 128S today near Peabody because of massive potholes that required immediate work..the traffic snarl was terrible and overflow onto city streets was terrible. -- The one, the only, the Insder. :: Fighting phishing for life. |

1 edit | I work in Providence and live in NE CT. The drive down Route 7 into Providence was a mess on Tuesday AM as there was multiple instances of water across the road, etc. Closer to the city there were quite a few areas closed in North Providence and they had to move quite a few manhole covers as the system just could not handle the water. The Home Depot across from my office near 146/95 was flooded out with 3-4 feet of water.
I know a lot of people in Cranston got slammed, and the news showed cars in the Warwick Mall parking lot underwater. Some of my coworkers who were just getting their basements cleaned up from the last storm were socked even harder.

In my area in CT the river is high but not close to the banks. Luckily we had some minor water seepage into the basement but nothing terribly substantial. -- "So, Lone Starr, now you see that evil will always triumph because good is dumb."

1 edit | reply to Dominokat Doing fine here in east Cambridge. Just a few puddles around the neighborhood, no problems.
A lot of leaking roofs and watery basements among people I know, but nothing severe.
The other side of Cambridge probably has worse problems (e.g. the Alewife Brook Parkway has been underwater). -- Join the DSLR Kiva team! |

 | reply to Dominokat How bad is Warwick, RI? New England Tech ACTUALLY CANCELED CLASSES!
I remember going in blizzards that shut down TF Greene airport next door AND the Rhode Island Public Transportation.
I've never seen their name on the RI TV station's 'closed' crawler before. |

MsTerraCallipygianPremium join:2002-08-20 Nerdvana kudos:1 | reply to Dominokat I have to admit, now that it's all over with and the sun is shining (and we have a functional water heater/furnace,) I'm feeling like a bit of a whiner. I've heard some major tales of woe from people around me and on the news, and now my seriously damp basement doesn't seem like such a big problem. Our sump pump performed like a champ, and for this I am profoundly grateful. -- "Strive to change the world in such a way that there's no further need to be a dissident." Some people have it much worse. After I got my basement manageable, I helped my friend. The water is still seeping in his basement. The fire department could get it down to 4 inches, we tried the rest of the way. We got his hot water and furnace going again. Marine veteran with bad health problems. How could I say no?
