| cherries left behind This is a good move for Comcast. Though, cable companies aren't treated the same as telcos. They have fewer *MUST SERVICE* requirements than telcos. The cost of deploying fiber is decreasing, and there are probably some other financial reasons besides serving upscale homes/developments somewhere in the deal. No way fairpoint can compete with comcast. We're also seeing less interest in municipal deployments of fiber and smaller companies building their own wireline deployments. Maybe it's tougher than it looks to negotiate with Tier-1 Internet fiber companies for wholesale backhaul? Wireless is the trend breaker here-- that is expanding, especially in the midwest & south. |
