I just with they'd take the search, home, back, call and end buttons and put them on the screen; take them off the physical phone - that drives me nuts.
Oh.. and one other thing I'd hope they'd do - put a freakin' sensor on there to dim the screen like apple did.. the whole timing out thing - I hit things on the screen with my cheek until it times out.. not cool. I just with they'd take the search, home, back, call and end buttons and put them on the screen; take them off the physical phone - that drives me nuts. Definitely personal preference. I absolutely HATE having to use iphone's soft back buttons at the top of the screen. Makes one-handed operation just that much harder. Same goes for search. If i'm in an application and need to look something up, being able to hold down the dedicated search key for voice search is 10x better than having to exit out of the app entirely, then either use the keyboard search to make my search, or worse yet open up yet another app just to do a voice search. The iphone gets many things right, but a lack of physical keys definitely has its drawbacks.
Oh.. and one other thing I'd hope they'd do - put a freakin' sensor on there to dim the screen like apple did.. the whole timing out thing - I hit things on the screen with my cheek until it times out.. not cool. I still think Droid has some things to improve on - some software, some hardware. I'm pretty sure the Droid has a light sensor? As a matter of fact, I believe just about every new Android phone has a light sensor. Even the Euro Hero had one. -- "What makes us omniscient? But.. as for the iPhone vs the droid.. there's something really nice about the fact that iPhone is completely touch screen.. the fact is that the hardware, in its use, isn't limited to the hardware itself..
Think about this... what makes iPhone EASY to deal with is this... when you buy an iPhone, they "just are"... meaning, you get an iPhone period. The iPhone is then completely customizable as to what you put on it over what is stock on it. With other phones, you have to decide "do I want the bigger cameara but give up wifi capabilities? or, do I want the larger screen but this one has a smaller MP camera..." stuff like that.. the iPhone is simply the iPhone.. you just know that all of them do the same thing as the next. That's just something I like about the thing, to be honest. And as for how it functions, that's really up to the designer of the apps, that is again those that aren't stock to the phone..
did that make sense? .. it's been a long day and I'm REALLLLY tired. lol | | tiger72SexaT duorPPremium join:2001-03-28 Saint Louis, MO kudos:1 Reviews:

That said, most of the recent Android handsets have an ambient light sensor. Samsung Galaxy (i7500), Samsung Behold II, Moto Cliq, Moto Droid, NexusOne, Legend, Motorola Devour, Motorola Backflip, Samsung Moment, etc. Literally the only devices that didn't have one are the 1st gen devices: Hero, G1, Magic/MyTouch3g

did that make sense? .. it's been a long day and I'm REALLLLY tired. lol It makes sense. It's just a bit hypocritical. Saying that the iPhone is "completely customizable" is a stretch of the imagination at best, and an outright lie at worst. No widget support. Not even theme support. Don't want all of your apps listed right on your main screen? Tough shit! What, exactly, is "customizable" on the iphone, again? Oh, the Apps. Well, Android's got those too. And if it doesn't yet, it certainly will pretty soon.
The brain-dead oversimplification may work for you (and many others). Not for me. I don't want a crappy 2mp camera. I want a 5mp one. I want a big screen with a keyboard. I want a cheaper device with expandable memory. Those aren't outrageous demands. I'm not asking for the moon. I'm asking for an option.
Our capitalist economy is built on options. Go to the grocery store and you have options. Go to the car dealership and you have options. Hell, get pregnant and you have options. But the iPhone? Nope. No options. They're the right-wingers of the tech-industry. Their way or the highway.
You know what? The highway gets me where I need to go faster anyways, so i'll drive separate. -- "What makes us omniscient? 1 edit | God forbid you back up your assertions!
I have both an iPhone and an Android phone. I'm fully aware of the capabilities of each. I'm also fully aware of the shortcomings. And customization is easily one of the iPhone's biggest shortcomings - has been from the start.
I'm not making wild claims like the Android music player is better than the iPhone iPod app. Nor that browsing for Apps is easier on Android than it is on iTunes. I'm simply asking you to back up your claims. And as I would expect from an Apple fanboy, the very thought of that causes you to lock up and cry foul. | | fiberguyMy views are my own.Premium join:2005-05-20 kudos:3 | Ummm.. I was speaking mostly to the fact that the iPhone is a piece of hardware that you know what you're getting.. you either take it, or you don't.. with other phones, you have to often give something up to get something else or visa v... you, however, come back and start insulting me AND try to take what is someone's OPINION and tell them they're wrong..

Figure that out.. I'm done with this. You obviously don't know what you're getting, since you're making claims about the device's capabilities that are false.
Everyone who buys a Droid "knows" what they're getting. Only tech-nerds buy an "Android device". Everyone else buys a Droid, a Nexus, or a Magic. I don't really think it's very difficult.
It's not limited to Android devices either. RIM seems to do well with a variety of form factors. Not everyone has a 9700. Some want the 8500. Some want the 8550. And those are popular devices that don't seem to be "confusing" for people. People know what they're getting when they get a Storm or a Bold. -- "What makes us omniscient? DON'T confuse your overly techy "the iPhone failed ME becuase it doesn't conform to what I want" feelings with things here..
I said what I said very clearly... I won't repeat it..
but, you go further to say "everyone who buys a droid "Knows" what they're getting? Really? You're being absolutely silly now... you are.
You think that buying a phone isn't "confusing" for people huh? REALLY? Then why are there so many people out there that make a living off of comparing phones for people.. pointing out what a phones strengths and weaknesses are...? Why there are people that make a living off of making buying guides so that people understand what they are actually getting.. to help them find the right phone? Even then, it's often pointed out that people are often angry becuase their phone lacks something.. they can buy the PERFECT phone (as perfect as they can get) but it may not support WiFi, as many black berry phones wouldn't.. a FEW did, but not many.. that really pleased people.. and if people were/are so damn happy with their phones, then why are they here all the time complaining that nothing works, FOR THEM.. followed up with "I like my phone but I wish it just had "X" on it..." meaning they got what they could and has to give something up.. becuase to be honest "X" is always available, but just on another phone, not theirs...
Then you talk about "some people want the 8500, not everyone has a 9700, some want the 8550.. so why not throw in the 83XX series curves too? Big deal.. they don't buy model numbers,.. they buy phones that best suit their needs.
And to remind you, I never said the iPhone was perfect, DID I? I said that people know what they're getting.. the "next model" of iPhone pretty much is the one before only they've added more capabilities to it or features to the hardware.. did I not? Buying an iPhone isn't confusing to anyone that does.. unlike trying to find the right blackberry.. and really, the BB is a bad example on your part. The BB is LARGELY a business-user phone, NOT an end user phone.. those end users that have one,.. 99% of them don't need one - AT ALL. And even then, up until some recent changes, the BB was COMPLETELY out for me, even as a business user.. the browser on it was horrible... or as I call the BB, DOS - meet the PDA. Once you got past the home screen, it was largely a text based phone.. with a keyboard for all the texters to be able to crank out texts faster..
Funny you talk about "only tech-nerd buys and "android device" everyone else buys a droid, a nexus..." You STILL have to decide which of those phones hardware is best suited for you. I owned the Hero - for about 20 days.. it went back.. the hardware left me wanting my money back.. Poor battery life (and the Hero isn't the same as a Droid) the lag of response was too much (Thanks HTC, I hear other makers have better performance) the fact my screen wouldn't dim when I put it up to my ear so I'd not accidentally end calls like with the iPhone (but I hear Droid does dim).. and having to use the end call button to wake up the screen, after a lag in that.. (and the Moto Droid has no end button on the front of the unit, it's on top I'm told).. see, there ARE differences.. do you DO have to make choices.. and you DO have to chose different handsets for different reasons...
iPhone.. is just an iPhone.. and the next model up, is just an improvement on the last model.. get it?
But um, yea.. "people know what they're getting".. this is why we have to have BIG ASS signs in front of the customer telling them "you're going to have an ETF of $200 when you get a discount on this new phone" becuase the thing they sign at the register after being told "you're agreeing to a 2 year contract with a $200 ETF should you cancel before 2 years" wasn't good enough.. but yea.. people just know what they're getting with the hardware... that's just plain wrong.. MOST people don't really know what they're getting.. they get what they find attractive to them. that looks "cute" to them, is the right size.. and they ask about things like "does it have a camera".. "does it have a full keyboard" and later down the road when they find out their phone do ALL they want, but another can, they call up pissed becuase they "really want the other phone becuase it can do what they really wanted" and then they are slapped into another argument over their contract.. becuase, you know.. people aren't confused.. they just know what they're getting.

You think that buying a phone isn't "confusing" for people huh? REALLY? Why there are people that make a living off of making buying guides so that people understand what they are actually getting.. to help them find the right phone? Ahh, Right. But the iphone has EVERYTHING, right? That's what you're claiming. Because if the iphone doesn't have everything, then you're being forced to either make a decision on what you want in a device (ie what the iphone does have) or you're settling for a device that doesn't have everything you want, simply because it is marketed as "easy" (ie all the things the iphone doesn't have).
Then you talk about "some people want the 8500, not everyone has a 9700, some want the 8550.. so why not throw in the 83XX series curves too? Big deal.. they don't buy model numbers,.. they buy phones that best suit their needs. Ok, then. They buy a "Bold" or a "Curve". That make you feel better?
And to remind you, I never said the iPhone was perfect, DID I? I said that people know what they're getting.. the "next model" of iPhone pretty much is the one before only they've added more capabilities to it or features to the hardware.. did I not? You never said the iphone was perfect. You simply said that every other phone is inferior. That's semantics.
So business users aren't end-users? Huh? Buying an iPhone may not be confusing, but neither is buying a blackberry. Pretty simple: Does this device have wifi? Does it have GPS? Does it have bluetooth? A keyboard? How much does it cost? Do I need any of those? Pretty simple questions to me. But then again, i'm not an idiot.
Agreed.
Funny you talk about "only tech-nerd buys and "android device" everyone else buys a droid, a nexus..." You STILL have to decide which of those phones hardware is best suited for you. I owned the Hero - for about 20 days.. it went back.. the hardware left me wanting my money back.. Sorta like deciding between an iPhone 3g (still being actively sold) or a iPhone 3gs? Cuz, you know, their hardware differences matter. Want to play games on your phone? Want faster downloads? Want a better camera? Get the 3gs. Don't want those - get the 3g which, as I said, is still being actively sold.
Umm. My iPhone lags. It has its own quirks. Just because you're used to them doesn't make them non-existant, or make other phone's quirks worse.
iPhone.. is just an iPhone.. and the next model up, is just an improvement on the last model.. get it? Oh, I get it: You can't figure out what you want, so you prefer for someone else to tell you. That way, all you have to do is pay up. Good for you!
So you're arguing for the mentally retarded? Again, good for you! I mean, how stupid do you have to be to ask - AFTER PURCHASE, whether it has a keyboard? The fact that you think that's a valid reason for the iPhone to be your Jesusphone absolutely screams fanboi. Really? Who the hell buys a phone, takes it home, then complains that it doesn't come with a keyboard? Or that it has a keyboard?
In other words.. NOW it's being played that the consumer IS smart.. and the consumer DOES know.. if that's the case, then why are we still passing all these nanny-laws to protect the poor un-informed consumer? ugh. I've never said the consumer was uninformed. I've only said that many consumers choose to be ignorant. There's a difference. -- "What makes us omniscient?
