Re: how will this "option to flee" actually work out?

ehhh... sorry to say, but in my opinion, it's hard to get the average iPhone user turned on by a droid.. I am one of them, for one.. and I do know many in my own circle that wanted to leave ATT and checked out the droids.. they decided that ATT was worth it to keep their iPhone..

As for Verizon gaining on the droid, I'd really like to see WHO is taking the droid.. I mean, like Sprint, Verizon really never had any 'great choice' for touch screen phones..

In my opinion, still, the droid needs to change (fix/correct) a few things before they can really be on the level of an iPhone.. for one, WHY did they make the wake up button the "end" button.. on my Hero, there is such a delay that I hit the end button to wake up the screen.. nothing happens.. I do it again thinking it isn't going to respond and I ended the calls.. they also need to fix that laggy keyboard.. then again, maybe it's just the HTC with that problem too.. meh.. I'll keep my two iPhones.

I have a Itouch and a Moto Droid. My Droid runs faster than my Itouch. There are no wake up issues with the Droid. Hitting the power button and it lights up in Seconds. When using WIFI as a comparison again my Droid plays video quicker and launching of websites.

What Iphone has going for it is the APP Store.

If you are a fan of running multiple apps that is not an option on the Iphone and is on Android.

Somewhat true. I went to the iPhone so I did not have to carry a cell phone and my iPod Touch at the same time.

Droid doesn't have "End" button. You wake it up by pressing hold/power button on the top of it.

By the time of Verizon's iPhone the multiple apps won't be an issue for comparison 4.0 is supposed to have multitasking, which I am impatiently waiting for.

Androids are selling well and there is large market for smart phones, so it can appeal to anyone who does not have to have fruit on their phone.

I recently got an htc eris and it perform pretty well. It could use a faster processor, but it has good battelry life. There is never a lag when it wakes up.

ummmmm... are you talking the MOTO droid? or the "droid" phones in general... as I've seen, all the droids (that I've seen) all have the same bottom buttons.. so in the sense of the "hero" for example, you wake up the display by hitting the 'end call' button on the lower right..

And that's my point... the droid is, in my opinion, not really hitting the iPhone crowd.. it's drawing people into smart phones where there are no other real options. Think about it.. sprint, verizon, and tmo really don't have the best selections of phones.. the droid is, however, giving people a new option they really didn't have before.

Droid and Android are two different things. Yes I'm talking about Motorola Droid and no it doesn't have end button.

Android phones in my opinion are as good or better than the iphone at this point. It took a while for the market to catch up, but they have.

I have even heard of iphone people giving up their iphone for androids. The next rev of the iphone had better be a good upgrade or it will not be much competition for the androids that are hitting the market.

With multi-tasking coming out, supposedly, that's going to be another huge leap for the iPhone.

Someone else mentioned that being able to customize the screen with themes and scenes.. meh - who cares, really.

FOR ME - I look for a phone with physical capabilities.. I look for internet capability, camera, GPS, battery life and stuff like that. I often find myself having to give one of those up to get something I really want in another phone - that's one thing I like about the iPhone - it's a phone with the same features.. the only choice you have to make with that is do you want the 3G, or the 3GS.. one has more features, one has less.. then you chose the memory amount and color. Like I said before, with other phones, do you take one that has a larger camera over a short battery life? Do you chose a phone with a real keyboard vs a slid out or physical one and of those choices, does the one of those two have a camera? .. or a good one at that? how about a flash.. etc. THIS is where I think apple has it right.. you buy the phone - period. How you chose to use it is up to you.

Someone told me that you can't customize the phone.. that you "put your apples on the screen" etc.. well.. andriod: I had the Hero, took it back. Yes, it will have a large clock on it.. it can tell me the current weather (as if I already didn't know) and I can place a couple icons on the screen.. limited amount of screens at that. iPhone: I can have the same. I put the email, text, clock/calendar icons on the home screen.. I see the date, I see the number of messages, texts, and phone events on the icon. kind of the same thing if you ask me.

They both have their good points and they also have some weakness.. but my main point about the two platforms... one's hardware is what it is.. the other, you still have to chose which phone is best or has all the features you need.

That very person also came back calling iPhone people brain dead or, basically, simpletons.

it's a choice.. personally, I just like that the iPhone is what it is... and you add the apps that make it what it does.

I have only had two android phones so far - both were rather clunky - however, I do chalk that up to the HTC phone itself as they really have never had phones that were all that responsive like the iPhone is to commands.

From what I've heard is that the next iPhone, or software, was supposed to have multi-tasking on it.. and also POSSIBLY supposed to have flash support finally.. it WOULD be nice to have a more customizable screen.. but really, I could care less.. widgets, on a phone, really do nothing for me, personally.
