Re: I feel the same way. I made a response a while ago to another post in this forum. The only reason i am still with unwired is because i have not been able to find any other wireless broadband provider in my area. About two months ago they finally came out and switched my access point, after about two months of telling them something was wrong and trying to convince them its not on my end and that i know how to type in an IP address, gateway, and DNS. Same problem is happening again, constant lag spikes in games, voice and video chats are now impossible. For over a week i have done nothing but look at webpages and check my email, because that is all i can do. videos are so slow i now have to pause them when it was never a problem before this week. When i explain my connection was working fine with videos last week they cook up some excuse about who is hosting the video. Skype, ventrillo, any other voice chat program disconnects me automatically after about 15 seconds, same for any program that requires a constant internet connection. Gaming is a joke, which is weird because i could have sworn the plan i signed the contract for said "Online Gaming" in the description.
I can run pings at any time of the day and see consistent packet loss every 13-15th reply, they dont seem to care when i tell them this or they see it themselves, probably because under 10% packet loss isnt bad to them(?). However this has effectively killed everything i originally got this service for; gaming, voice chat, video chat are all things i am no longer able to use on this service, and getting help from them to restore my connection is taking forever.(over a week now).
I have run the connection with nothing at all between my computer and my gaming consoles, just plug straight into the PoE and always get the same results. i guess they are reliable in the way that i can always expect packet loss and trouble with their tech support saying its something on my end as soon as i call.
I recommended the service to a friend of mine, who ended up getting a 2mb connection for the same price as the 1mb connection because he "knew somebody" and the overall quality of his connection blows mine out of the water everyday, any day, any time. Calls to my sales rep about getting the plan my friend who i recommended got have gone unanswered/ignored. i guess it all depends on location and the tower you are connecting to, so take a chance if you feel like it. | |

@unwiredbb.com | I'm using my Moto Droid cell phone tethered to my PC when I game and use TeamSpeak/Ventrillo. The Verizon 3G network is faster and much more reliable than my home unWired connection. I'm thinking of ditching them pretty soon and just use my 3G cell phone. Tethering is free on any Android platform. Google PDA Net for more info on tethering. My download speed is 1.6-1.9mbps through Verizon vs. 1.0mbps with unWired.
I also noticed that unWired is taking over CVIP's DSL customers. I'm going to assume this will impact everyone else in a negative way. When unWired was smaller, they were awesome. As they became more and more popular, their service has become worse and worse.
There is another wireless ISP that might serve you called Odyssey Wireless. From what I remember they are using WiMax for home use. Let us know if you find another wireless ISP provider in the area. | |
