Single DHCP for multiple Vlans Design

Hello Experts!

I want to believe everyone is doing good. Well i am just having some little problem with design i want to deploy.

I have my full blown intervlan routing between SVIs i configured btw 3750 and 3560's. The thing is this i have a win2k3 DHCP server that i want all my users to pick up address from say a 10.10.90.0/24 subnet. Now on my SVIs i configured "ip helper-address" command pointing to my DHCP.

int vlan 400
172.16.4.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 10.10.90.254

int vlan 500
172.16.5.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 10.10.90.2

int vlan 600
172.16.6.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 10.10.90.254

int vlan 700
172.16.7.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 10.10.90.254

Basically what i am trying to achieve is this, regardless of the vlan a user belongs to, they should be able to pick up an ip address from the DHCP server with the ip address of 10.10.90.254.

Any suggestions would be welcomed on how best i could achieve thanx.

as long as whatever is doing the intervlan routing can communicate with the win2k3 server (has an interface with an IP in that subnet) and the dhcp server has the correct dhcp scopes setup for each vlan, your config is pretty much correct.

granted its only of the vlan interfaces so anything beyond that is up in the air, but you seem to already have what you need in respect to have clients in each vlan getting DHCP.

DHCP
You need to add a new scope for the vlans in the dhcp server.

You should create a scope for
vlan 400
172.16.4.1 255.255.255.0

vlan 600
172.16.6.1 255.255.255.0

vlan 700
172.16.7.1 255.255.255.0

Be sure to activate the new scopes once you are done configuring them

Hey Ryan,

Thanx for replying back. But please i need you to shed more lights on these for me

"as long as whatever is doing the intervlan routing can communicate with the win2k3 server (has an interface with an IP in that subnet)

My thinking is this! does that mean i would have to configure the ip of the SVI that the DHCP server vlan belongs on the DHCP? something like this : say the server belongs to vlan 700, when configuring server i would put 172.16.7.1?

"and the dhcp server has the correct dhcp scopes setup for each"

Do you mean i would go into the DHCP server scope for all my SVIs and configure something like this;

scope 172.16.4.0
Start ip 172.16.4.50
End Ip 172.16.4.254

I have to do all these on my DHCP server?

Thanx again!

Hey GpcTexas,

Do i say you are the boom! or you just a genius!

Thanx mate i can't wait to get ma hands all dirty with them configs!

But just for the knowing!

Do i need to enable any services on the Win2k3 server for Lan routing or so? Or the routing i did on my switch is just enough!

Thanx

Just need the DHCP service on the server.

Your switch/router handles the routing
