Billing on a closed account

Speakeasy most definitely was a big disappointment for me with actions that border on illegal. In my experience they are not forthright with pricing or billing information and are eager to nickel and dime you. I signed up and canceled within the grace period. A week after cancellation and additional charge for installation was debited from me. I had no conversation with a Covad technician that there would be extra fees involved. He showed up went outside, came inside and I signed on the dotted line. I gave no verbal authorization for extra work and paid an install fee, and now an extra $150 a week after the account was closed. There was also no note on a bill explaining the fee. Essentially I was billed about $280 for a connection that was very poor and had to be canceled.

Did you call them and ask about it?

The agreement on their web site is pretty clear about this:

Speakeasy offers a 25-day Trial Period on all ADSL services. If Customer feels that Customer must cancel within 25 calendar days of Customer's Activation Date, Customer may do so without being subject to a Disconnection Fee. Any outstanding Monthly Service, Installation, Missed Appointment, No Access, Internal Wiring, or Promotional Fees will apply.

True, but no consent was made to my knowledge for additional installation services. Installation was paid and no one communicated the extra fee. Speakeasy just seems to be a company eager to nickel and dime the customer. Does Verizon charge to run fiber to the home for Fios? If speakeasy was in the fiber game rest assured they would.

It is VERY possible that Speakeasy got the bill from the ILEC and passed it on. They have no control over what the ILEC does and or charges for, same with the tech - very likely they did not know if it would be charged. They do the work and submit the bill and the internal folks at the ILEC do with it what they will.
