IPTables, which is built into the Linux kernel with different front ends offered for various distros and DEs.

For WinXP an older, tighter, slimmer, cleaner version of Comodo v2.4.18.184 (thanks to Trel).

A couple of corrections:

1) pfSense is not Linux. It is FreeBSD.

2) You forgot 3rd party Linux firmware, like DD-WRT and Tomato, etc.

3) Techincally all Linux based "firewalls" use the same firewall underneath -- IpTables.

I have a Cisco ASA 5510 for my home office, only becuase I have 5 Site to Site Vpn tunnels with my companies locations.

Nothing like getting enterprise level security for no cost.

Windows XP Pro, Zone Alarm w/router.

Windows 7 Home Prem, Windows Firewall w/router.

And I voted wrong, I missed the "router w/software firewall" choice.

I find it most interesting how this poll is finding the largest usage thus far is the Windows Firewall. Not too many years ago, that would be unheard of!

I use IP tables with a basic frontend (CSF) on the linux boxes and a router/firewall combo (smc) at the network edge.

I think the firewall of Vista and 7 is reasonable, no need to replace. And no one just bothers to disable it and install another

I have hardware firewalls at both home and office. ZyWall 35 at the office and a couple of ZyWall 10W at home. The 10Ws are past prime but bandwidth at my home is only a T1 so they are able to keep up OK. On the computers at both locations I use Windows 7 firewall but the ZyWalls are the first and primary line of defense.

I chose "other" in the poll.

Decent countermeasure I think. Haven't witnessed any tampering as of yet. *knocks on wood*

Currently using Outpost Free on my XP64 desktop, though I don't like it much, and Sunbelt on my XP32 laptop.

I wish there were more decent ones for XP64.
