AT&T still beats Comcap

...for the simple fact that with AT&T you're actually allowed to use your connection for more than 6 hours in a month.

AT&T doesn't have bandwidth caps unlike Comcap and their obscene 250 GB monthly bandwidth cap that you can pass in 6 hours @ 50 Mbps.

Your math is wrong, this also assumes you are saturating your connection constantly. Get a T1 and stop expecting something for nothing.

I would rather have 50mbps than 3mbps dsl. At least when I download that 600 meg file, it won't take me that long.

Plus, who is going to download 250gb of stuff in 6 hours? You have that much pr0n to watch?

[(250,000MB / (50mbps/8)) / 60] / 60
[(250,000MB / 6.25Mbps) / 60] / 60
(40,000sec / 60) / 60
666.7min / 60

Really? I don't think anyone knew this or felt this way... Thanks for bringing something new to the table.

And in celebration of this new news, I'll add some too... Just because speeds are faster doesn't mean everyone will automatically use more.. It does mean that things will come to you faster though.

And I would not sing the praise of ATT as they were the ones that had two cities in trial already on how to charge you by the byte after 5gbs.

Yay for ATT!!!

You're forgetting that many can't get 6mbps
Many are on 768kbps, 1.5mbps, and 3.0mbps
even if you try to use much you really have to download useless data 24hrs a day
like torrent its pointless
Not many people download high quality stuff
Just lousy MP3 youtube junk TV and useless chat that even 56kbps modem is good enough
DSL is the underdog, it is a cheap fix for modem user who need something faster
Cable is the main competitor to FIOS
Cable is like a big road but you cannot travel more then 1 lane
Or a car that can go 200mph but you can't go faster then 55 or 65 on highway

With A T & T on 24/7, can it even do 250gb in a month?

Someone with AT&T U-verse could download over 7,500 GB in a month.

Nice try smartass.

I think he was talking about someone on DSL which is around 1.5-3mbps downstream. Uverse is not even close to wide adoption so using that as a measuring stick really isn't accurate.

That being said, if you have 3000 downstream DSL line, and go full bore 24/7, you are looking at 960gb per month. At 1000 down its 320gb.

I think you can leave the personal insults out of it.

Exactly. Even at 1 Mbps it is possible to use more than 250 GB of bandwidth in a month.

Having a cap like that on a 50 or 100 Mbps connection like Comcast is doing is like paying for a buffet but then you read an asterisk on your receipt* and it turns out that you're only allowed to eat one grape.

It all depends on your hunger in that situation.

If you have a regular appetite, then you will eat until you are full, but you will get done eating in 5 minutes as opposed to an hour.

Take two people who are equal in the amount of food that they eat. Just because you have a trough at your table and you can eat 15x faster than someone who has to eat with chopsticks doesn't mean you will consume more as a result. It just means you will eat it faster and be done quicker.

Another example would be a car. If it takes you an hour to commute to work right now (DSL) and you decide to upgrade to 50mbps and commute in 5 minutes (Cable), it doesn't mean you will drive more as a result. Sure, you can get from point A to point B much faster, but you aren't going to drive for the sake of driving.

I fail to see if you have a faster line that you will consume more data as a result. You have the potential to consume more faster, but you won't do it just because its there.
