They dont want you to use their data

Its not surprising given AT&T's steep rates for pay per use data and horrendous overage rates on laptop cards. If AT&T actually wanted you to use their data then explain why the iPhone defaults to WIFI. They want you to pay more while delivering less.

I agree that AT&T charges too much for their service. That is why I use Sprint.

But making WiFi the default data access method should be what ALL smartphones do. The Sprint & Verizon Palm Pre's work that way. The data access is fastest that way and it keeps unnecessary traffic off of the cell network whenever possible. A smart thing to do for all vendors.

I never realized it was done with other carriers as well. I guess I can toss that one into the "effective network management" catch all. The death star wants you to pay more to use their pipes but want to offload their network traffic bills onto another provider for free via WIFI. I'm not sure what the word is but it doesn't seem right. Oh yes, effective network management.

I had thought that T-Mobile was the fastest. They're pushing 7.2 - 21Mbps in their 3G network.

I wouldn't worry about Palm, they're looking for a buyer.

what you think $500.00 for each additional gig over 5 is excessive? (grin)
