Math Problem?

quote:
all 2.3 million California residents should be able to get the faster speeds
Of the 36+ million CA residents, only 2.3 million can get D3? LOL.

Re: Math Problem?

Ummm maybe it's 2.3 million Comcast customers.

lol

Oh and being the major population center, SoCal, is served by TWC, I would have to say that number is pretty close. (not sure about cox in SD yet)

You are right on! Unfortunately the post left out the word subscriber. See »www.multichannel.com/article/451···rnia.php

Comcast was obviously not referring to ALL California residents because clearly many are outside Comcast's service areas. The reference must have been to all of Comcast's subscribers in California. Thus, it is you who has the Math Problem. Or is it just faulty liberal logic at work?

Re: Math Problem?

No math problem.

2.3 million out of 36 million seems puny.

Re: Math Problem?

Puny! By what standard? Does any ISP have more California subscribers?

I would bet that AT&T does, since (as far as I know) basically all of California is AT&T (formerly SBC) territory.

Uverse doesn't have 2.3 million customers TOTAL in the US let alone California.

There are a lot of AT&T DSL customers who do not have U-Verse. AT&T has almost as many broadband subs as Comcast.

All of California is not AT&T territory. See »www.calcomwebsite.com/images2009···0Map.pdf Although there is a lot of blue (AT&T) area, not all of it may have dsl, so it could be close. In any event, I am sure that Comcast's share is anything but puny.

I don't know where Comcast is in CA, but AT&T has all of the Bay Area (7.4M), all of San Diego (3M), and most of LA. You can bet that most of that area has DSL, even if it's not particularly fast. Obviously neither of us have the actual subscriber numbers, but it would not surprise me at all if AT&T has more subs in CA.

Interestingly, I have never lived in a place where Comcast was not the cable provider (in the last 5 years I've lived in Redmond, WA, Santa Clara, CA, and Boulder, CO - all have Comcast).

I doubt if there are 3 or 4 people in household all 3 or 4 would need to have a seperate account. There's maybe 13 million households in California. That's what you should be basing things on.
