 | [Extreme Plus] iPad and Extreme Plus problems Has anyone encountered WiFi connection problems with the iPad using the SMCD3GN modem/router? I spent the weekend troubleshooting the dropped connection issue and suspect it's the router's fault, but of course there's no way to fix now that admin control has been closed off completely. Rogers tech support was oblivious, but that's not unexpected as the iPad has yet to be released here.

Regardless, the iPad has had widely reported WiFi issues. -- GOLF LEAFS GOLF! |

 | reply to Smike I know that the iPad has it's own WiFi issues, I've heard it on a number of gadget podcasts I listen to. Might want to look around some Apple forums. -- www.LaconicReply.com - Tech/photography/rant blog |

 | reply to Smike It's the iPad, Wi-Fi issues galore. But hey, that's the fun of 1st gen Apple anything. |

 | reply to Smike Didn't make very clear in my earlier post.
I upgraded to Plus a month ago and and had been using the SMC as a modem only until last weekend. I've a D-Link router and as I had that one fine tuned I kept using it. No connectivity problems with the iPad.
Once I removed the D-Link router and had Rogers re-enable wireless on the SMC, then the iPad started having connection problems. I researched and saw Apple identified some dual-band routers as having problems. When I went to Rogers seeking a solution, I hit a wall.
So I had them disable wireless again, re-attached the D-Link router and everything's fine again. So it appears to be an issue with the SMCD3GN, which is why I asked if anyone else has had an issue, trying to verify it's a device problem or a one-off. |

It's a problem between the iPad and any dual band router I believe, not just the SMCD3GN. The SMC sucks huge, in many interesting and novel ways, but in this case it's the iPad.
I imagine Apple will release a firmware fix soon to correct it, it's been getting some negative publicity. As morphesus said, this is what happens with 1.0 hardware. There were reception issues on the first iPhone too, which is why they went to the plastic backing for the 3G and 3GS. -- www.LaconicReply.com - Tech/photography/rant blog |
