Their idea of HD is trash as well.

Compare an OTA broadcast with a directv one, side by side on the same monitor.

More compression than Queen Latifah's girdle!

For an example like this, you don't even need a side-by-side comparison... you just need technical operating facts. A side-by-side just measures or demonstrates the product for consumer satisfaction measurements.

In the end, someone may look at two services.. say even Comcast HD from OTA HD.. SOME consumers may not even see a difference OR care.

OTA has been taking hits lately, and in most places is just as bad as the best Sat HD feeds (premium movie channels).

thender here with 18 mbps CBS broadcasts, putting directv to shame on CSI and other crime shows.

Well, OTA has more bandwidth to offer. It's hard to squeeze that much data out of old satellites, unless you replace them all or change some of the HW/SW.

Plus, I noticed that DISH is more blockier than DTV. I've seen them both side by side and I pay close attention to certain details. That was one that I could notice quite easily.

..and this whole HD kick, I could care less. I'd rather have 100-200 SD channels that look good and carry decent content instead of a sh*tload of HD channels that carry crap and/or is compressed to death.

Personally, I think this whole HD thing is a ton of hype. Sure, it looks great.. But only until the next big thing comes out. I'd rather stick with SD for now and wait until HDTVs become even cheaper before I switch.

They also have to survive a 2 and a 3 1/2 year old, which includes:
1. Surviving a drop from 5+ feet
2. A baseball to the screen
3. Having the buttons pressed hard several times a minute
4. A liquid-proof remote that can be easily found (sort of a paging feature that's available on most cordless phones)
5. The screen that could be easily cleaned due to constant fingerprints and touching

Once they can figure all that out, I'd be glad to buy one. Don't make them thinner, make them indestructible.

I'd have to agree with that. C Band is sweet, although the initial setup is expensive. I'd still go that route if I owned a house and an acre of land.
