·Frontier Communi..
2 edits | From Illinois newspaper.... "As a condition of the sale, Frontier Communications Corporation would have to eventually satisfy strict service quality and broadband Internet requirements. Frontier still needs some approvals nationally before it can buy Verizon's lines. If they do, the move will affect customers in Bloomington, Carbondale, and dozens of small towns across the state. . . . . The commission approved the deal on a 5-0 vote."
"In approving the sale, the Commerce Commission disagreed with a judge's recommendation to reject it. Commission Chair Manuel Flores said the commission will ask for regular updates about service quality from Frontier if the deal eventually goes through. "This merger will test the managerial skills of Frontier," Flores said. "

Mr. Flores, I think you've got part of it right. But, it's NOT a merger!!! It's a sale!

He lives in a tiny town which is directly effected by this (Mansfield, IL). They've had some issues with with Verizon's POTS over the years (forget DSL, it's not available), but they use and are happy with VZ's cell service.
It's a stretch to call it broadband now, but they use and have been happy with a local WISP- which I'm sure backhauls to one or two VZ T1's located in Verizon's storage shed sized CO in town. As long as Frontier doesn't muck up the WISP's access, I doubt they'll notice any difference. -- Jeff Howe Jeff's Blog - »www.ostjournal.net
