Illinois approves Verizon deal

I live in southern Illinois in an area served by Verizon. They've never offered DSL in my town so our only Internet option is Charter Cable. Guess we get the worst of both worlds, although I have to admit that Charter HSI is pretty reliable. When I called Verizon about getting a land land basically for 911 service, they wanted $30 per month for it. I decided to remain with my VoIP and cell phone services so I don't use Verizon at all. I likely won't use Frontier either so whether they fail or succeed won't have a significant impact on me. It's no shock that our state regulators approved this deal since they never do anything that benefits the citizens of this state. We're so screwed up that just today we had thousands march on our state capital demanding that our legislators raise our income taxes by 33 percent - where else would that happen but here?

Verizon's pricing is already too high and Frontier will have no choice but to raise prices even higher just to break even, which in turn will push more people toward cable company phone service and HSI. For what Verizon charges for basic phone service with no long distance or features, anyone in this area could get Charter phone service with unlimited long distance and every available feature. Even unlimited cell phone voice service is now cheaper than Verizon's basic no frills land line service. No wonder people are dropping land lines by the thousands every year. I just don't understand how Frontier believes they can ever turn a profit from land lines since it seems to be a dying business model.
