Re: Cable Sharing speed is moot It is not a marketing stunt as to bandwidth being dedicated. There is a major difference between a cable modem platform and a DSL platform. The reasoning behind this is your DSL uses a copper pair that goes from your house to the central office for the telco where a DSLAM is located. From the DSLAM it then goes onto their larger "pipe" if you will. There is no inbetween. In cable modem platforms they go between CMTS points where the DOCSIS platforms encrypts / tags each packet and pushes it through it's network. The dedicated term comes from the point that you go straight from the customers prem to the central office without any intermediate equipment. |
