Re: [ NJ] Christie kicking some butt in trenton

So for Parsippany, is that $150 total per student combined (town, state, federal) or $150 from just the state?

Rather than compare against different school districts, I would like to understand what the costs are for Parisippany to see if the past and present funding levels are adequate.

From the state income tax.

If you don't know the purpose of the state income tax in New Jersey (and you probably don't, since you don't live here), you are not qualified to make judgements on state funding of public schools.

I dont need to understand the reasons behind the sales tax - what I would like to understand are the costs associated with the $150 per student for parsippany.

Not sales tax, income tax. It makes a difference and is important when it comes to school funding.

Strange for him to be complaining about greed when his wife makes >$500,000 per year.

$220,000 per year doesn't seem unreasonable for running a the largest school district in Morris County, with over 7,000 students and 750 teachers.

How many people does Christie's wife supervise for her $500,000+ ?
except we're not paying her salary...that's the difference

P.S. If the voters in Parsippany, NJ, want to pay their school superintendent $220k/year, who the fuck is the governor to say they can't? Why can't the voters of Parsippany, NJ, use their tax money as they see fit, without interference from Trenton? Would a true conservative stick his nose into the business of how a town decides to use their own tax money?
because on average in many or most districts 1/2 that money comes from the state.

Christie the Big Spender of Taxpayer Dollars:

quote:
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who has elevated his national political profile as a conservative cost-cutter since taking the state's highest office, used taxpayer money to stay at luxury hotels while serving as a federal prosecutor, according to a new Justice Department report.

Christie exceeded the federal government's set lodging rates by as much as $242 per night on 15 occasions between 2007 and 2009, states the report by Justice's inspector general.

He spent $2,176 more than his budgeted rate over the course of 23 trips, of which only eight stays were booked in compliance with the federally allotted travel rates.

According to the report, Christie, who was a U.S. attorney — referred to as "Attorney C" — "provided insufficient, inaccurate or no justification" for 14 of the 15 trips in question.

In one instance, Christie explained a $475-per-night stay at the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington by saying an early-morning speech was scheduled at the hotel. The report concluded, however, that if a room at the government rate of $233 was available within a reasonable distance, "we do not believe this was a suitable justification."

The report also cites $798 worth of expenses submitted by Christie for car service to and from airports in Boston and London, which the IG dubbed as "excessive."

this was a complete sham article "leaked" by liberals trying to undermine christie nationally to help spoil any presidential runs in 2012 or beyond. these claims are completely unbased and a joke. $800 worth of "excessive" transportation to/from airports? does it say how many trips were taken? have they ever SEEN the prices of car rentals in these airports?? christie was one of the most responsible prosecutors we've had in a long time. he flew economy and stayed in "regular" hotels almost exclusively.

And that is an extremely misleading statistic when the bulk of the money goes to just 31 out of 500+ school districts. All the other school districts get next to nothing for all the income tax money they send to Trenton.

What's the median, not the mean? All the numbers are in the spreadsheet I posted.

He probably had to pay the car service extra for a vehicle with a high enough load rating for his weight.

my district is/was close to 50/50 for this year's budget and it's not an inner city public dump of a school. same with most of the districts around it. maybe SJ has more state funding (or less local funding)

I just looked at the state spreadsheet. The median is 24%. And that's using total aid, not SFRA aid (which is what we're talking about), so I'm being generous.

My town only gets 7% in total state funding; less than 2% in SFRA funding. 59 districts get 0% SFRA funding, repeat, ZERO.

Gov. Chris Christie merchandise for sale online

ANGELA DELLI SANTI • Associated Press • November 16, 2010

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey Republicans are cashing in on their biggest star: Gov. Chris Christie.

While failed U.S. Senate candidate Alvin Greene of South Carolina hoped to create jobs by manufacturing action figures of himself, a Christie line of merchandise is generating revenue for the state GOP party.

"He's a rock star and New Jersey rarely produces one," said political scientist Patrick Murray of Monmouth University. "You're not going to just sell these things to New Jerseyans. This guy's got a national reputation."

The available products include T-shirts, mugs and lapel pins. Each features a silhouette of New Jersey and the words "Chris Christie, governor" in blue, white or gold. The clothing is navy blue.

Prices start at $2.95 for a bumper sticker and climb to $45.95 for a hooded sweat shirt.

First-day sales on Monday topped $500.

"Dad, I can't focus" story was the best! lol

We have the same problems in PA as they do in NJ but nobody even talks about it for fear of losing the teachers' union votes.

Christie has balls.
