Callcentric ridiculous rates to UK toll free numbers
I got a low balance alert today and was shocked to discover I am being charged $0.29/min for calls to UK toll free numbers. According to Callcentric support, this is what their carrier charges them.
The Callcentric rates page lists UK Freephone as costing $0.0605/min which I would be happy to pay, but $0.29/min is ridiculous for a toll free number. I would love to know what constitutes a "UK Freephone" number since every UK freephone number I entered on the rates page was somehow classified as "United Kingdom Other Specialized".
I'm really hoping this is a billing error as Callcentric has otherwise been great for me, but support isn't working with me on this one and just claims that's what their provider charges them. No other VoIP provider I've used has ever had such high rates for toll free numbers.
What do you think, is Callcentric or their provider classifying the rate plan incorrectly or are they really charging $0.29/min for toll free calls?
You might want to post this on the VOIP forum. Although the rate seems high, I'm sure that it's easy for CallCentric to see what they are charged, and I can think of no reason why they would be less than honest about it. The better argument may be; should CallCentric consider an alternate and less expensive provider in the interest of their customers.
While I initially didn't think I would get anywhere with support, a supervisor read my ticket and confirmed there was indeed a routing problem with calls to the UK 08 prefix and that toll-free numbers were being sent over a premium carrier.
They explained it very well and have fixed the issue and refunded me for the calls made at the incorrect rate. So I'm very happy to be able to continue recommending Callcentric to anyone looking for a VoIP provider .
