Are you looking forward to FFXIV?

Had anyone else been looking forward to FFXIV? I wasn't lucky to get a beta invite yet but the information that's coming out looks great.

It looks like a prettier, enhanced, more casual version of FFXI. Saw some leaked gameplay footage.

I enjoyed FFXI outside of the impossibility to progress efficiently without having excessive amounts of time. Played a BLM to 75, BST to 65 or so, and a DRG to 61. Everytime I got turned off by the inability to just hop on for an hour or two and play.

If this is more solo and pick up and play friendly I'm all for it. Take out the waiting for group all day and lack of solo xp factors from FFXI and you have a pretty damn good game.

Really happy they didn't WoW the interface and kept it simple and clean.

Just to reiterate though, I don't want an easier game at all, just more accessible. FFXI has stuff that is hard as nails, and that makes the experience much more satisfying than being gifted everything.

The shift to a more casual type of game makes sense with an aging gamer demographic where honestly people don't have 8 hours straight to get a group together, go to camp, xp, go back, etc.

Well spoken! I couldn't agree with you more. They say it is going to have solo play and faster groups so I have high hopes for FFXIV.

I will likely be playing it. Whats the expected release date / timeframe? Late 2010?

More then likely Q4 2010. They have confirmed it will release in 2010 but the game is maybe 80% done so I'd guess December 2010.

If I can play solo/group an hour of so a day and still progress..I will subscribe.

So far I have not read if a "casual" player can progress in it.

I've tried to get a beta invite on this for a long time. I have tried on three separate accounts but not even a nibble yet.

Cool. So it seems you're encouraged to play multiple disciplines to gain access to skills, rather than starting brand new characters. Attribute points are still assigned, however, so you can't completely break the mold and switch roles - but I do like the customization.

They claim it will allow solo game play for any job. The alpha testing is up to like 50,000 people now. Not a ton of info rolling out yet because they limit the play times to like 2-3 hours a week right now.

Edit: Uploaded an 'old' picture of my ffxi jobs. I got my WHM, RDM, and COR to 75 before I quit also. And yes I had Maat's Cap.

I'll be playing it as a main tank. So far I think between old FFXIV friends and DSLR people we could have a nice 20-25 member guild to start with.

I just got the email 10 minutes ago! WOOT!

"A little over 5000 testers are in the NA servers." Not bad to be 1 in 5,000.

According to the rumor mill they are planning to ramp up from 5,000 to 15,000 in the next 2-3 weeks for alpha testing and continue to ramp up till like 50,000 to start the beta stage.

Did you get your invite through your regular email? Or did you find out on their site?
