ayoustic posted : Greetings,

One trick that you can use to always know where BOINC is storing the juicy goods of the work units it to bring up the boinc manager just after starting the application and take a look at the "Messages" tab. Look for the "Data directory:" log entry. This will tell you, upon every startup where BOINC is looking for work. This is great when troubleshooting.

That said, I noticed you were looking to change distro's. Please keep in mind that the "curve" of running BOINC doesn't necessarily change. The issues do sometimes :) but the core of Linux is fairly standard.

Cheers,
ayoustic

nerdburg posted : Hey Gang,
I put together anther cruncher from spare parts I had about. I don't have an extra HDD tho, so I set about running the machine off a flash drive. It's running Ubuntu 9.10 and I have no issues getting BOINC installed and running except...i get "Scheduler request failed: peer certificate cannot be authenticated with known CA certificates"

»boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/Err···20failed suggest this:

1. Determine your BOINC data directory. Check the beginning of your message log. There will be a line near the beginning like this:

08/06/2007 13:18:00||Data directory: C:\Program Files\BOINC

2. Download the missing file. - make sure you name the file ca-bundle.crt.
3. Place the file in your BOINC data directory.
4. Restart BOINC. The way you do this will depend on your installation.

That would be great, except I'm new to linux and have no idea how to even get past step one "Determine your BOINC data directory."

Can you guys help? Any other ideas? I'm currently running another cruncher with Ubuntu 10.04 w/o any issues, but it's installed on a HDD.
