Agreed. I'll be writing my letters this weekend.

And it's blog post writing time too. Anything to raise visibility of this issue.

You'd think two failed bills and a copyright consultation that came out overwhelmingly against this would have been enough to show that no one thinks this is a good idea. But apparently lobbyists speak louder than democracy.

My god, why oh why oh why do we have to go through this shit all the damn time!

It's a constant fight, the citizens vs the government and WE always lose.

You can't win the fight when the guy you're fighting against makes the rules and is the referee, and he punches you in the balls... repeatedly.

We've all written letters before and the government doesn't care or simply responds with a form letter talking about how they need to strengthen our laws to compete in an international media market...

I can only hope this Moore fellow falls victim to an unfortunate gardening accident before he's able to introduce this 'Made in the USA' law.

I will be issuing a letter to my mp.

It will basically say:

Avoid with the whip, vote with the party and I will make sure you lose your seat to the best of my ability.

Make a stand and vote against this abortion of a bill. I will praise your actions.

I think if we send any kind of letter that states this MP's will definatly jump ship on the PM.

Libs, conservatives,NDP?It don't matter they'll side with this probably regardless >.>
I bet ALL the countries will sign onto ACTA due to the US using 'we will stop trading with you.' card. The states has EVERYONE by the balls on this.

Arnie and the RIAA and MPAA are really happy today.

Fact: Arnold WAS the one that got the cam legislation into law in canada.

Plus remember there is the G-20 in toronto.I think this is why this DMCA garbage is being approved.I hope it doesn't become like the UK digital economy bill.Canada SHOULDN'T be a carbon copy of the UK and have big brother breathing down our necks.

No expect it to be worse. Canada has Canadian Content rules, a country wide DPI based enforcement system already installed, really arcane libel laws for rights holders to use (worse than in the US), and really unfair court procedures that will lead to an extremely high conviction rate (even higher than in the us).

When you combine all of this together you pretty much have a Chinese or north Korean media system that will shut out the rest of the world due to profit margins and legal risks.

It'll put most poeple into a double jeapoardy situation, watch what trash the government allows or go to jail and risk being exiled from society (since you need the net to do most of anything) when you go to find your own content outside of the laws.

No expect it to be worse. Combine it into canadian content rules the DPI stuff (thats everywhere) and the fact its guilty until proven innocent in canadian civil courts and you pretty much have china outright.
UK have their court system where you are WITHOUT a Jury,That's wayyy worser. Well i better cancel internet, phone, everything else and live back in the 1900's because that's where WE are heading

Expect us to follow suit with a similar system (then face civil charges accordingly) if we do indeed take the worse of the two.

Though jail time in each country can't be given on zero liability offences so if it gets that bad for a single MP3 you will get your time in court.

Given the pervasiveness of technology your better off renouncing Canadian Citizenship then moving to a country that cares more about its media consumers than producers. Hopefully said country also does a better job of balancing the rights of the two than we did.

Though with the way the media empires are going there will be no place like this anywhere on this planet.

The ironic thing is that the US has become internationally pretty much what they revolted against in the 18th Century.

At a time like this we Canadians need government leadership and representation and what have we got? Pretty much a colonial rubber stamping machine.

We are ruled by a foreign government we did not elect, through a proxy government, that the majority of Canadians didn't vote for.

I've been impressed with Tony Clement in the past, so this does not surprise me.

But he has a hell of a headwind to face now!

Actually, Canada is free at anytime to join the United States, according to the Articles Of Confederation.

We are the only country in the world given this unique option. See Article 11. (XI)

Except with what's going on, it's not an option I would want to take right today!

I'm willing to go to jail for this to prove a point... BRING IT ON... I'm sure as hell not going to pay just because someone breaks into my wireless network.. But if you want to put a bunch of us in jail to prove a point, go for it.. I hope you plan on funding the jail system because it will be loaded.

It's time Mr. Harper was kicked out of office for good.. I never voted for him to start with... The issue is who's better? They all suck. I will love to see how he's going to over ride the constitution on this one.

They tried this twice and failed, and I have a feeling the media lobbyists are just fighting a war of attrition. They only need to score once, and if they fail they simply start again under a new name/politician.

Did you read the article?Harper PICKED Moore OVER clement. Harper stood by Jim Prentice (sp?) so he'd automatically stand by Jim's sucessor (moore)

Globe and Mail article:
»www.theglobeandmail.com/ ··· chnology

Edit: and there is something for Angelo at the end of the article:
quote:
Movie and music companies, on the other hand, frequently paint apocalyptic pictures of entire creative industries dying because users download Transformers 2 off the web instead of going to the theatre or buying the DVD. Recently, adult movie Linux ISO stars got in on the act, filming a public service announcement chastising users who don't pay for their porn Linux ISOs.

He is building more prisons... for ACTA and copyright violations. Don't you know...people who violate ACTA and infringe copyright by format-shifting are the worst scum in the world.....worse than the meanest father-raper of them all.*

The Articles were superceded by the US Constitution on June 21, 1788. Canada is not mentioned in the Constitution.

Looks like we missed out on the "Operators are standing-by" offer. I'm certain that had we called in the next 15 minutes they'd have doubled the offer and thrown in a set of steak knives too.

Ginsu or Henckel?

(Ah, but Cutco thinks they're the best. Afterall, if you're a starving student, you can sell Cutco steak knives through Vector Marketing.)

Then there was that dustup in 1812 which complicated things...

Interesting to note that tidbit from history though....
