I am not talking bad about the console I am joking but it does do this but I have had mine 2 years and it works better now then when I bought it I think.A little advise and I have checked it with a infrared thermometer because i do heating/a/c,but if you leave it horizonal it will run hotter because the airflow design was idiotic.Its to close to the table its on and it gets the table/desk hot and keeeps generating heat but if you stand it up and put something under the front and back edges about an inch high it will run 6 degrees cooler trust me it works.the console sits to close to the table and for it to suck air freely its a must .Think of it like this you barely crack a window in your car and smoke barely goes out of it but you roll it down and it starts sucking any lose paper in the car out
But standing the 360 vertical can cause it to scratch disc more often. Gamefly even includes a little handout when you sign up reminding you to keep your 360 horizontal. Basically you are screwed either way.
I run my horizontal but I cut two 12" long pieces of 2"x2" wood and stick one under each side of my 360, so the little rubber feet are on top the wood. This gives me 1.5" clearance underneath the 360 and helps keep it cooler.
