ncwjoe join:2010-05-08 Saint Louis, MO | SMCD3DGN MODEM WON'T CONNECT ON CHARTER I happened across a couple of these cable modem/router combos and they are docsis 3, wireless N , gigabit ethernet, pretty nice units. All except they won't lock and grab an IP so they can be registered on the network. As far as I can tell, Rogers from Canada uses these. Charter cannot or will not help me with it because they do not have these. SMC networks absolutely refused to help me in any way, repeatedly referring me to my ISP even after I told them Charter does not have or support their equipment. The way I see it, a docsis system is a docsis system whether it be in CA or the US, these things should be able to work on this network. My feeling is that there are some configs that need to be changed or set up in the mso admin / cable settings area. What I don't know is what needs to be entered in the settings boxes, like the frequencies, and charter is not talking. (of course, they want me to lease a box from them, but theirs isn't as nice) It goes through the post normally, but the ds and us indicator lights just flash, never solid, and the "online" light never comes on. it's like it's just scanning but never locks. Could anyone shed some light on this for me, maybe point me to a rogers firmware file i could try or something??/ any help appreciated. |
 | Did you give Charter the mac address of your new modem? If they don't have the mac on their end it will not work. Can you come up with a creative reason or excuse as to why they would have to change your mac address? I don't know what else the modem needs to download, I would imagine there is some sort of firmware that gets installed on it from your cable company, that could be a tougher grind. Not sure if it would ever work... -- +RiVAL+ was here... tell your friends!! |
