Re: Number porting It was originally an AT&T (PacBell) line, that I had ported to Comcast CDV. I ported directly from Comcast CDV to Vitelity. I remember expecting it to take about the exact amount of time it would take, and they also informed me of such. I budgeted 2 months. I think 1 month of that was me researching (by far the longest of the steps I had to take), banking, paperwork, tendering, paying, and ordering the port. Once the port was into their system, you're right, I think it was around about a month for the actual port. They quoted the time period, and it was about that. I followed the process fairly closely, and the numerous steps it took that I saw each only took a few business days. There were just lots of steps. The nice thing was it was sort of like a black box: put in $$, 1 month, and some account data, stir briefly, and out pops the port! (Granted, the stirring happens after putting the time-warped 1 month into the box, and before the 1 month got waited for -- someone time-traveled that month into the box before the stir ...)
This was all back in early 2008, if I remember correctly. | | PX EliezerPremium join:2008-08-09 Hutt River kudos:12 Reviews:

| Thanks very much for the followup!
-----------------------------
I just don't want any VoIP newcomers to get scared off about porting.
These days, the FCC expects that ports should be completed within a few days.
While that may be a little unrealistic, ports should be finished within 2-3 weeks unless there is some major problem.
I've ported several numbers, from POTS to Cable, from POTS to VoIP, and from VoIP to VoIP, all within 2-3 weeks.
And the paperwork involved is modest, and should not take more than 15 minutes to fill out. I have no idea what is meant by "banking" etc.
Apologies for taking this a bit OT, but as I said, I just don't want anyone getting scared.
Again, thanks for the followup. | |
