Re: Prices

Amazing what companies can get away with in this age of just profit motives.
Or that it actually costs a lot of money to design/manufacture these devices, and yes, still make a profit to stay in business. 10-15 years of a subsidized business model has permanently infiltrated the consumers psyche...

Yea the poor companies to make that profit.
That is just one factor the other is the unfriendly business tax this tax that environment that simply gets passed to the consumer like it's our fault.

can you blame them?? I don't. they have no choice in the matter. Take a basic business class and you will find out why all that crap gets passed on to the consumer.

All phones cost a lot up front to design and manufacture. Even those penny phones that they used to sell cost a fortune to design and manufacture. $600 for a brand new smartphone is a very reasonable price. People tend to forget this kind of stuff.

Really? Then why is the EVO 4G $450 at retail, while the N1 is a century buck more? The profit margins on these devices is ridiculous, and the way the market is setup makes it impossible that we'll ever see a Dell-like company selling them at razor-thin margins.

The subsidized model hasn't infiltrated anyone's psyche. It just makes little economic sense to bring your own phone, since you receive no discount for it.

That's not a reasonable price at all. How can you determine reasonable without a truly competitive market?

What makes you think it's not competitive? There is nothing preventing you from shelling out the full cost for whatever phone you want. People in other countries may enjoy more consumer friendly wireless industries, but they still pay the same prices for high-end smart phones that we do.

Wait, Nokia + HTC + Motorola + Samsung + LG + Pantech ISN'T a competitive market? You can put Android on ANY platform if you want to do so...you can get $150-$200 internet tablets running Android, but they don't have cellular capability.

Actually, Dell is making Android and Windows Mobile phones now. They're just all on AT&T.

what is a truely competitive market? I have never seen one and I doubt you will either.
