Re: Distance?

Where I am I can get either AT&T DSL or Charter's HSI. It's not even a close comparison. Fastest from AT&T is 6/768. Charter is 25/3 for now until DOCSIS 3 hits my area and then 60/5 becomes available hopefully. AT&T's mindset will be their downfall. Keep up or get the hell out of the way.
What are you going to use the 25Mbps for? Most consumers don't need it. Streaming video only needs about 4Mbps for near HD (like Netflix).

I'd like to step down from 7Mbps to 4Mbps if it would cost less.

ATT will do fine, but won't be able to service power users, which is a small part of the general population. Why spend billions when only a few % need that much bandwidth? The do need to beef up the infrastructure to sustain 10Mbps to end users but most user themselves don't need more than 10. Copper has some life left for the last mile.

Re: Distance?

640K ought to be enough for anybody. Bitstarved 4Mbps "HD" (ahem, U-verse) is also good enough. Right?

When I go to my Cousin's house with UVerse... I laugh inwardly that they will "Put Up" with dropped frames....
I go nuts watching UVerse on their bigscreen... Every few seconds it drops a frame.....
I finally went home, and brought over a BluRay I made, encoded at 40Mb/sec, and it played flawlessly.... So that rules out the display.......

Yeah... you don't need extra bandwidth... Yeah....

Bull!

I'm not most customers and I think I do need it. If you want to step down because that will meet your needs great. For me I want more speed. Keep drinking that AT&T kool-aid.

Re: Distance?

I'm not an ATT customer and never was. Just saying 90% of consumers don't need over 10Mbps, only power users do, which you fall in to.
