Vchat20Landing is the REAL challengePremium join:2003-09-16 Columbus, OH | reply to moes WebTV failed mostly due to the fact it was way ahead of its time in a period when 56k dialup was about the fastest thing available for most people so it was limited to pretty much basic web pages and that was it.
Apple TV failed or will fail due to being completely locked down to just iTunes with nothing else like a web browser, tv tuning functionality, or anything else.
From what I've read about Google TV is it will pretty much conjoin everything into one system: Watching your subscription tv services, web video, web browsing, and more. All with a close focus on the web aspect. -- I swear, some people should have pace-makers installed to free up the resources. Breathing and heart beat taxes their whole system, all of their brain cells wasted on life support.-two bit brains, and the second bit is wasted on parity! ~head_spaz |

KoolMoeAw ManPremium join:2001-02-14 Annapolis, MD | reply to dvd536 I dunno. I really like the idea of such a box that doesn't require subscription fees. I have no problem with advertising, I see it everywhere already. I don't wan to spend $$ on a DVR, nor NetFlix, etc...and we rarely have time anyway.
Watching the few network shows on their websites works great for me. Hooking up my laptop to the TV works pretty well.
I got an Apple TV but it's restriction/tie to iTunes kinda sucks. The Boxee mod for it was cool with Hulu, til that was stopped. Ever since then, I just don't use it anymore.
A box with no fees that'll let me watch pretty much any web video, or web site, on my TV is cool. I'll get one. KM -- Don't Lie - Be Kind - Realize your Potential |

What are you talking about?.....I'm still using my bad ass Webtv unit, lol.
Yea it's old and you can't do much on it but you can't beat it when you get the subscription for free when you get cheap ($12) msn dial up service. |
