Password Recovery Procedure for Cisco Ironport Mail Gateway?

Anybody know of password recovery procedures for a Cisco Ironport mail gateway? I bought a C10 for a song on eBay and unfortunately a non-default configuration prevents me from configuring it.

Thanks,

I found this advice in another forum, where someone had done a similar thing to you and bought a C10 on ebay:

Please follow the steps below in case you have lost your "admin" password on your IronPort appliance.

Contact Customer Support for a temporary password. You will need the Serial Number of the device.
Once you receive the temporary password, please access the IronPort via serial connection.
Log in as user 'adminpassword'.
Enter the temporary password you received from the Customer Support Engineer and hit return.
Enter the new password that will be used for the 'admin' user.

Hope that helps.

Yes. That's the procedure alright. I contacted customer support and they provided a temporary username/password. They were both very quick and very helpful.

Thanks!

To be fair to Cisco, they purchased the Ironport company and product, so they were a bit stuck with the password recovery mechanism.

...so then what stops one from going to an office with an Ironport, walking out
with it, making a call to customer support and getting the temp password reset
and ebaying it within the same day?

Seems like this process is WIDE-open to mis/abuse, methinks...

Not any different than other Cisco products. You have to have physical access to the device to perform a password reset. Doubtful that the device is going to be sitting on someone's desk or even in a typical TER. Nope, this puppy's going to be screwed into a 19" rack in a server room. Besides, theft is theft. If someone wants something bad enough they'll steal it anyway.
