 | No Longer Able To Do Things Online! Thanks to dialup I'm no longer able to do the things I could do up to 5 years ago online. Too many websites have changed over to Broadband or High Speed internet websites. With dialup I'm no longer able to veiw a lot of websites. All I can basically do now is check my email & send email! I don't know how much longer before the dailup users like myself & others are left out in the cold! |

| I do agree with you, it won't be long before we are forced out.
I've only encountered a few web sites that I can't view, but the file size for programs are getting too big to download on dialup. Even some of the updates for the programs I already have installed are taking longer to download than they used to.
I plan on getting some form of HIS before the year is out, but I would like for it to be my decision not because I have to do so. |

 | Thanks & I know for a fact what I'm seeing on my computer it has nothing to do with spyware or viruses. It's very clear that a lot of websites are changing over or have already changed over to Broadband or High Speed Internet sites. The only sites that are not giving me any problems when loading is Yahoo Mail & parts of Facebook. |

 | reply to sims28372 sims28372, I feel your pain. I have been stuck with Dial-Up here in a suburb of St. Louis for years. I also plan to get some kind of HSI with in the year. Up until recently the only choice I have had is Charter. Do to personal experiences I have had with Charter here in my area I have stuck with Dial-Up (that should say a lot).
The problem is my neighborhood is in a DSL "dead zone" the last time I checked I was something like 250' short of the maximum distance from the central office (CO) for DSL . Looking up my number shows it available to me, but as I understand it, the farther you are from the CO the more problematic DSL can be.
Sticking with dial-up is more a problem with content. Too many sites are going with some flashy "Flash" (like) based interface or so loaded with java programing that they take forever to load. I have Bank of America, the site takes so long to load that sometimes it times out while loading.
I remember when the term Bloat-Ware being coined for software that takes an ever increasing amount of HD space. Welcome to Bloat-Web or Bloat-Net. The ever increasing amount of data that needs to be transferred to display a site. I guess waistlines aren't the only thing expanding.
I wish these sites would realize that while more and more people at going high speed there are those out there that have no choice but to be on dial-up due to financial or availability issues.
Sorry for the rant, Stan |

TonyKZ1 join:2010-04-08 Marble Hill, MO | reply to sims28372 Yep, I agree also. I've tried caching software, where the browser sends out a request for page, the host loads it, compresses it, and then sends it to you, it helped some but not enough.
I've even went as far as installing flash blocking software on our computers, it seems to help make a difference on the speed of the websites. Of course if it is something you want to see you can just tell that flash thing to go ahead and load or add the whole website to the "okay to load flash" list. Tony |
