Re: Extreme 105?

What's wrong with your levels... did you post them, I didn't happen to see it.

Those are my levels with a drop amp (+15 down and +7 up). I ran a second drop from the tap just for the modem - so it's a new RG6 drop from the tap that only feeds the modem. Return at the tap is at @ 52.

Ok and here's mine.

Only difference is the Arris is purely 64QAM, not a hybrid QPSK/64QAM upstream.

What you don't see is the Upstream SNR, which I've heard on my modem is very marginal. The upgrade to 64QAM is not without it's hard work in the maintenance dept.

I come off of a 26v 4-way tap into an unbalanced 3-way. One of the high loss legs (-7db) feeds my modem, because the low loss leg of the 3-way feeds another 2-way for DVR and QAM tuner.

That's all I have from one drop...
drop to 3-way -7dB leg to eMTA outlet
drop to 3-way -7dB leg to DCT700 Bedroom box.
drop to 3-way to -3.5dB leg to 2 way behind living room TV
2-way above feeds Samsung TV QAM tuner and DCX3400.

No issues except for very marginal upstream SNR, which so far isn't causing a problem.

Hello cypherstream See Profile. I am curious to know what that quoted upstream SNR figure is if you don't mind ?

Must of been a local issue, had the upstream snr pulled again and it's good at 29.1 dB. The CMTS is getting it optimized at 0 dBmv which is perfect, and the modem is transmitting 48 dBmv to get it there.

So nerdburg See Profile without that amp, you would be about -6 dB down, +53 dBmv up?

Yeah +53 up is hairy on 64QAM. Needs a bit of balancing. You see my levels, what do you think? Extreme 105 ready?

Maybe you should test it out for a month.

My up is +53 to +55 w/o the amp. Seems to work fine tho. From the days when I had a SB4200 and 3MB service, the levels have been the same. Maybe if they took that stupid 26 value tap and replaced it with a 23...meh. I'd bitch about it more, but I know all the local techs, if they find out I'm complaining about them, they'll set my house on fire or something.

I am tempted to try out Extreme 105, but I just had lunch today with a couple of the Pottsville techs, they don't know anything yet about any changes and never heard of Extreme 105...nor do they have any of those Arris modems.

$450 is a lot to drop to try something out tho. Although the techs insist I can try it for 30 days and get money back, (including the installation fee) under the Comcast Customer Guarantee.

I mean heck I have the 16/2 blast but the only time I see those numbers are on speed test.I can go on youtube which has busy servers just for an example and watching that little red line load is like watching grass grow it can barely stay ahead without having to pause. The only time I ever see fast downloads are from sites like Hp,microsoft, etc. Like downloading drivers or anything like that mine will load at 3 MB's not Mbps which is quick like 100 MB in 1 minute.
I see these numbers constantly when downloading, or torrenting :

Yeah my tap says 26 on it, but my upstream magically came down from the 54 area to the 48 area. They could of opened the tap plate and threw in a lower value plugin. Or they may of balanced things out at the node, or any of the amps that the signal travels through to get to me. I know there's an LE two poles down from my tap.

The tm702g should be able to work with it. It can bond 4DS / 4US, it has GigE on it and is fully DOCSIS 3.0 certified.

Likely that anyone who opts for this tier will need to upgrade their router. That's for sure. Most routers weren't built for that amount of speed. You'll want a router with a Gigabit WAN port for the added headroom. If they recommend that Netgear one for free, then it's most likely tested to work great at those speeds. This is not something for your budget Linksys box.
