Teksavvy cable activated today!

Waited around until 11 before the guy finally showed, not his fault though apparently TSI gave him my work number. He says he almost never comes if someone doesn't answer the phone but had a feeling I'd be home.

Down to business! The Toronto speedtest.net server was slow (6mb/s down) but with the Montreal one:

Also the Teksavvy test on my fast computer (slow laptop only shows 5000/1000):

Ping test:

Finally some linux iso testing:

Seems to settle down to about 1.15 MB/s download. The upload seems to take a hit when the download is flying. It comes back if the DL is limited to 600k/s, these are just the points I tried (up down roughly 1/2 speed) I might make a pretty up vs down graph later. The other thing I'll look at is how latency reacts to the connection being used (the bane of DSL).

My Tomato router didn't want to pick up an IP for some reason, I'll have to figure that out tonight.

Now I have to get to work, the boss is probably wondering where the hell I am!

Ontario Extreme (10/1 200GB)

Now I'm out the door can be back in 20-30mins. Interested to see how VNC will perform from work.

i told you earlier that all those people who were pinging their gateway doesn't have their internet up yet.

your internet is only active after the tech visit. if the tech hasn't visited, you don't got cable internet.

Well I obviously needed a visit since it didn't even sync. But after the tech hooked the line up and the modem synced, all I could get was a Rogers welcome page until he went back down and authorized the modem or whatever.

It seems I messed up my VNC configuration isn't working. Now that I think about it I may have been forwarding port 80 (needed to get out of work firewall) to some other port on the computer using the router which isn't hooked up.

you were pinging the gateway earlier in a different thread, that means you are syncing. all you were missing is the activation.

No he wasn't. That was me. As I said before, my Rogers tech came on site last week and then I was able to get sync and an IP... I am still not able to traverse beyond my gateway.

why did you let your rogers tech go if you didn't have internet access?

internet access is not just ip you know, lol.

Maybe you need to see the whole picture to understand:

Day 1: Modem plugged in, no sync, no IP
Day 2: Rogers tech came on site, SYNC, no IP (Activation day)
Day 3: Sync, no IP, Teksavvy contacted, ticket created with Rogers
Day 4: Rogers informs Teksavvy that my PHUB is not provisioned yet for Teksavvy service, will happen 30th or 31st.
Day 5: Sync, IP, cant go beyond gateway

Dunno...sure is a refreshing change from DSL with its 15% overhead!

I'm thinking it will stick. Notice the upload is right on, no extra slack given there.
