The law firm sending out the threats and demands is also threatening TW. One of their lawyers claims that by failing to give up the subscriber names fast enough, and explaining their limited ability to process thousands of requests at once, Time-Warner Cable is "inducing copyright infringement". ( »arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news···gers.ars )

This is copyright extremism and it's gone too far. We need laws to set higher standards for ISPs releasing customer data, and to provide some relief for people who are forced to pay even if they're innocent, because they can't afford lawyers.

ISPs should flat out refuse to give up information without a court order. that or IP requests due to copyright without a court order will require a $200,000 research fee.

and then the laws should be changed so that people cannot be sued in a courthouse that is not with in 1hr driving distance from their home. heck kick it up a notch, also make the court order have to be local to the ISP. even if its small WISP they would then have to goto the court local to that WISP.
