not getting the avertised speed and if it is a fast connection it gets dropped, I live in Sudbury and when we 1st got our Eastlink connection (Persona was bought out by Eastlink) things were great then we lost our internet connection while they did something for a few hours a couple months ago now I'm throttled or don't get a connection at all depending on how much traffic I've had lately (unlimited download 1/15mb) this in my opinion has very little to do with traffic but is targeted at what they think is illegal traffic (IRC) in particular they (ISP)are deciding what we can do, there is no freedom on the internet in Canada. when I make no changes to my comp and all of a sudden I can't access or send to people right after a shutdown by Eastlink what should I think
Eastlink uses DNS hijacking so it would be better to use a third party DNS (eg opendns, googledns) to start, and second off go to »192.168.100.1/ in your browser and make note of your modem logs and signal levels, really helps in narrowing down a problem.
Eastlink does use throttling like all other ISP's do but it's not too hard to get around it if you know what you're doing.
