Google should have just deleted the data

and then when the agencies come calling, say its too late we deleted it to preserve privacy.

Re: Google should have just deleted the data

Yeah, and then some up and coming prosecutor will attempt to nail them for destroying evidence. Hopefully google's lawyers would tell them that deleting the data would probably not be a good idea, since the cat is out of the bag, so to speak.

Re: Google should have just deleted the data

but once the data is deleted is it really deleted or can it be retreived at a later date. that is the question that should come up. Just becuse i delete something off my computer, with the right program you can pull that file back or at least see that it was here at some point, even after all traces were deleted as well.

the thing is that good knew what they were doing and did it anyway.

Re: Google should have just deleted the data

I'm sure Google has access to degaussing machines for the HDD's... or eco-friendly sledgehammers...

In all seriousness though, I can' believe they'd do that intentionally. Too much of a risk. Of course, we've seen bad decisions made before...

If I were the prosecutor, I would go after them for destruction of evidence. I believe that could be proved relatively easily, i.e. we would like to look at the data you recorded. google says, oops we deleted it.

well my wireless is secure so i dont care. but honestly as a person id rather it be deleted then trust some DoJ goon browsing through it.

personally i think the DAs want to see the data to look for criminal acts by people. otherwise why would they want to see what was sniffed rather then have an agent ofthe court simply goto google and see the data destroyed.
