 | DOCSIS 3 I found out DOCSIS 3, at least in Boardman, is already deployed and they are testing it now (no differences in speed yet). I will be asking about once a month to see when the speeds change. I also know I will need a new modem since the one I have is only DOCSIS 2 compatible. Though it is pretty good timing since I have had this modem for about 5 years and never seen one last longer than about 5 years. --

| I spoke with a tech about this about a month ago. Most customers will have a new modem installed if they elect for a DOCSIS 3 package. No "speed increase" is set for current customers. This should be on the market officially by year's end. -- Check our my internet radio station: »www.thebomb102.com, featuring new music and hits of the millennium, powered by FTTH! |

I have heard of some who are already starting to get 20/1.5 but no other info. Personally I don't need THAT much download. I just want a bit more upload so I don't have to wait for the backups to finish on larger files. Armstrong even boasts its re-branded backup service but gives you horrible upload speed. I would like to get either a 5/5, 10/5, or 10/10. I don't think a 5/5 or 10/5 would be difficult for them to do, even a 10/10 probably would not be out of possibility with DOCSIS 3. Why not make us more symmetrical? -- - "Techie" Jim |

Why not make us more symmetrical? They have stated that there will be 50/5 service and 30/5 service being completed this year. Right now, I am subscribed to Zoom Pro with 15/3. The upstream is weak because of offerings of Armstrong with a full basic analog channel lineup. The frequencies used for upstream (low in the spectrum) are dominated by these analog channels, leaving little room for DOCSIS upstream channels. I recently spoke to an Armstrong employee, who said there are plans in the works for getting rid of almost all analog channels (only offering the local broadcasts in analog), 3D HDTV channels (ESPN presumably for the time being), and the full rollout of DOCSIS 3. Not many people will jump for the 50/5 or even 30/5 tiers, seeing as they are premiums. However, as more time passes (my ball park guess would be at least 3 years) we will start to see upstream channel bonding, as well as downstream channel bonding, and this will give us the symmetrical tiers that we all (the tech minority) want. This would probably be a year after they made their basic lineup digital. |

You also have to realize that it can be different in each area. For instance, you have Pro 15/3. The Pro tier here may actually cost more than yours and we only get 10/1.5 (the Enterprise business tier is 10/3 which is max here). It's very possible that areas that are more competitive get speed upgrades long before non-competitive markets do (and still some may never see upgrades). I had talked to techs locally about a year ago who told me the 500 tier was supposed to go to 8/512, and it did in some areas. Here it is still the same 5/512 it was about a decade ago.
Edit on TV: The idea of IPTV or ridding of analog channels has been thrown around for years. It would certainly free up a lot of spectrum, but same as above your area may have analog channels removed soon while this area may have analog channels for years or decades to come. It all depends on the area.

The rep on the phone even said something to the effect that they were rolling out in the "consolidated" areas. |

| That sucks man. Should be getting at least 4 Mb/s up. Check »speedtest.zoominternet.net and see what you get there. That is all internal on the Armstrong network. If you aren't getting the speed there, Armstrong will provide service if you are getting less than 80% of the advertised connection, which it seems you are. Plus, since you're in this kind of "beta" situation with the DOCSIS 3.0; I bet they'll want to hear feedback on your experience. |

| reply to jimbo2150 As of this morning I can confirm at least one 50/5 installation in Medina, OH. One of my customers called up to have their router's QoS recalibrated and we got speed test results hovering around 47/4.5 consistently. I called Armstrong immediately after to attempt to order the new service level for myself (I'm approx. 2 miles from the customer who just got it) and at least on the residential side their official word was that it's not available outside of certain PA markets. I'm awaiting a call return from the business side now.
Hoping to drop 10/1.5 for 50/5 soon. |

| reply to jimbo2150 I just got installed. It took all of 5 minutes. The guy put in an Arris WBM760A. I checked it out and the modem is bonding 747.00 MHz, 741.00 MHz, 729.00 MHz, and 735.00 MHz for downstream using 256QAM modulation; and it's using the single upstream channel 30.00 MHz for upstream using 32QAM. I'm provisioned for 50 Mb/s down and 5 Mb/s up. Here are my results:

All in all I'm extremely pleased |
