Verizon -related outage in Queens, New York

Our SDSL has been down for 49 hours at NYCQNYFH. It came back a moment ago and then disappeared again, but at least there is light at the end of the tunnel. This is an unheard-of outage period. To put this in perspective, we had a shorter outage during 9/11 when the POP was a few blocks from ground zero.

Speakeasy is blaming multiple failures with Verizon including a coax problem at NYCQNYFH (Forest Hills) and a fiber problem between here and NYCQNYBA (Bayside).

The real-time status on Speakeasy's web site never revealed anything about this because [only] 35 of their customers were affected.

I'm baffled about the network topology involved that would allow this to happen.

Supposedly thousands of customers were affected between other ISPs, consumers of T1, etc. Not a pretty scenario for anyone involved.

I was affected too. Just got back on. Equally upset about this. I was out 49 hours too.

I've been out since early Wednesday morning. Still not up, and CSRs told me that VZ was attempting to splice through to another CO. Apparently there is some kind of massive equipment failure.

Take it back--I powercycled the modem and I am back up
